This isnt really my area, but since I havent seen one and racing generally requires the same engine, just how many in your club actually have a .35 engine???...and now a days with add ons, hardware, and covering, ARF's can be as cheap to get as kits...Rog

You should look at the Club 40 racing. It's already established in several areas around the country (FL included), and is about as cheap as you can get for entry-level club racing. Airframes are either the World Models SkyRaider II, or the LA Racer. Most clubs mandate a .40 sized motor that costs less than $120 and must remain stock.

You won't find a kit cheaper than the WM SRII or the LAR - SRII is about $89 and the LAR is a few $ more. Toss in a $90 TTPRO 40 and you regular servos, and you're ready to go!

Another reason to go for the .40 sized plane, is that it's MUCH easier to find an airframe to put a .40 into than it is a .35. 35's are kind of a ****-child size. You either have an overpowered .25 model (a good thing), or an underpowered .40 size (bad).

Good luck!

Tim

There is quite an active Club 40 group in North/Central Florida. They have one race per month, rotating around to one of about five different clubs each time. Contact Lyman Slack at lyslackevents@bellsouth.net for more information and rules. These are a fun, friendly bunch of guys to race with. They only race the World Models Skyraider Mk II and the ST GS 40 engine, any prop. This is about the least expensive class to race and in my opinion one of the most fun.

Where to buy the plane and engines, try your local hobby shop first, then the various resellers on the internet, Airborne Models http://www.airborne-models.com/Index.asp, etc. Also, Don Stegall donstegall@sprintpcs.com has the planes and will ship them.

See this link for a source of Club 40 information:
