is there a bottom gyro mount i can buy? the bottom of my boom mount is curved making it difficult to mount the gyro on the underside. i was thinking about mounting it elsewhere. but where. what about the bottom rear cage?

just do what i did and turn the block upside down. the boom will also be upside down but it wont matter.

3 flights on the trex450, today i did the chineese weight mod to the tail using fireups jig. what a difference. the mod pays for itself with extra stability in your whole flight patterns of any kind. my 500 is stable and all my 450,s have been squirrley well today the 450 flew as clean as the big bird. reverse flight and hard reverse loops and the tail never blew out. you can feel the stability everywhere its kind of hard to describe other then you have more control over your heli. well worth the cash and im POd that i didnt do it quicker. im dang sure it would have saved me over a $100 in crashes with the extra stability.

Well...ok....I planned on getting out to some open space so I can really fly a little harder than my backyard...I wanted to work on my FF and FFF...maybe attempt a loop and some rolls in FF. I pack up all my batteries, pack the heli in my mini tote, check the radio, pack it, load up all my tools in my field box and head out the door.

So I cruise up the road about 10 minutes from my house where there is lots of open space out on the mesa. I look for a nice place to park, see there is a woman with her 2 dogs so I continue on down find a nice little crossroad where I can park, have a level take off point and not block any possible traffic if for some strange reason it comes out here in the middle of no where... I unpack my heli, radio, do my pre-flight check, and load up a battery on the heli. I lay down my welcome mat that I fly off of...look to make sure the woman with the 2 dogs is no where in sight. I hear calling her dogs but she is headed the other way...good I can fly with no problems from her or her animals. Up I go! I start with one of the 12C packs just to warm up and fly some circuits, check the breeze conditions, etc...they can't handle idle up but they fly in normal fine.

So here I am...the middle of the desert. 10 city blocks from civilization, having a good ole time flying back and forth, small stall turns, a little hovering...I am getting toward the end of my pack when my peripheral vision picks up a mini van driving on a dirt road in front on me...still a ways away but just in case I decide to land. And...of course...this person decides to drive right down to the area I am flying in. Good thing I landed. So I pick up my TRex and move back to my SUV while I wait for them to pass...I start getting a second battery ready and I hear the van come to a stop...Well...this woman gets out with her 2 dogs and starts telling me "Oh don't worry. They're friendly" They do what dogs do and come bounding over to me, sniffing every thing, me my vehicle, trying to sniff the heli...I gently nudge them back and put myself between them and my precious heli...I turn around and she has parked right where I am flying from...not a foot from my welcome mat landing pad...I can't believe this! This idiot chooses this spot, in this huge, wide open space to park and walk her dogs!!!!!

Ok...no biggie...I pack up and decide to move else where. I drive back the way I came in....the first lady with 2 dogs is now on her way right near the second area I was going to fly...no biggie...I just keep going. I get a little closer to where I live and find a great hill that is being worked on for a future development and decide this is a great spot to fly from...I can fly with my heli in front of the mountains and be able to see the whole city of Albuquerque in front of me. I get out and start unloading when I see a small burrowing owl on a bush not to far from me. She takes off and flies away. Good, I don't have to worry about her thinking my TRex is fair game to bomb out of the sky.

Then I hear it...a baby owl calling out for it's mother. Oh Great! I decide to have cigarette and go see if it is really a baby owl. So I walk up the hill to the bush and sure enough...it starts calling out again....this time momma sees me and starts trying to distract me and make me follow her...so I walk toward her and get about 5' and off she flies farther down the hill and starts with the follow me call she has. I walk back to the car and decide I am going to fly out another pack any way. Load up another one and up I go...now this did not sit too well with momma owl. She came flying back up and started circling the area I am flying at. I am a big animal lover so I did not want to injure her if she decided to attack the TRex and I sure did not need to have my RC heli covered in blood and feathers...so I packed it up and came back home...just not my day

Hope you all are having better luck than I am Sorry about the long post...

I did some hovering at the backyard.. I have a pretty good size lot, it's all i need to practice hovering with my BH.. 4 packs of lipo 10 min each seems like 2 hours the first 2 packs with the training gear, i was doing pretty good so i decided to take the training gear off.. i was shaking in fear but up my BH went, a good 5' from the ground.. "Damn!" all i said, notice a difference without the training gear, i was actually hovering better than i did compared with the first 2 packs with training gear. The packs are charged up again but it started raining.. oh well I'm a happy flier!

Took my trex to the park for the first time today and flew 3 packs. all on idle up. The 430XL is a bit of a disappointment. Its no where near the power of the JGF 450F motor.

the trex is flying well in idle up. just a little tail hunting that i have to adjust. I just bought the scorpion #8 today. i have to solder the connectors and will install on the trex. The LHS also had the scorpion #6 motor. the guy told me that 3 to 3.5 minutes of flight time is all i'm gonna get with that motor. I'd rather have 3 minutes of ballistic flying than 8 minutes of so-so flying.

Ah, my first flight outside finally. The stinking wind has been so bad here there was no way before this. So I have been stuck in my 8.5 by 9 foot kitchen learning to hover. A bit of a challenge there with the rotor wash off of he cabinets and appliances. Anyway, outside I go. I guess I am a bit lucky, I live in the country so plenty of space right here. Up I go with my BH 450 in a bit of a breeze and it was such a thrill. Not the best hover, moved around a lot but still there I was. Did that battery pack then let it cool. So I decided to show off and told my wife to come out and watch me fly. Now I am still not sure what happened but up I go and the bird promptly spins to the right then forward and right into the ground. Broke one of the main blades and bent the spindle shaft. It was dark by the time I finished repairs but thats ok, my first flight outside was a thrill even though my second was very short.

The sun was out early.. 4am in the morning when i saw a glimpse of sun's rays outside. I snoozed for a little bit and finally got up at 6 am... hmmm its suddenly cloudy outside.. I did more hovering with my BH and felt really good without training gears.. I decided to flip the switch making sure i got my pitch to at least zero.. up my BH went after applying a little bit of positive pitch.. Wooooohhh! i was hovering on idle up! my last 2 packs lasted 7 minutes each on idle up, not bad time don't you think?.. .. i'm making breakfast right now while the packs are charging.. o/^ i'm hopeful it don't rain o/^ Helitubbies wants to play o/^

4 pacs 450 and 3 pac,s 500. no wrecks.

made allot of progress in my inverted hovering. i can now hold it much longer then before and im starting to get more control while inverted. ,my circles are really starting to come along well too.

the tail mod made a big difference on the 450 thats helping and today i threw a bunch of bling at the 500 so tomorrow ill try it out.

flew 2 packs this morning with the trex450. it seems the align 430xl motor is running much better now. the power delivery is smooth throughout. got a vid of it. didn't do anything fancy for the fear of another crash. i need more stick time on it before i can start doing flips and rolls on her. she sure is pretty to look at.

Seven packs on the 500. Nothing great, eights, circles, stop and go fff. All trying to maintain altitude. Did a bunch of aproaches from left and right as well. On a preflight for flight 8 I found a loose mixing arm. Tried to tighten, but it was stripped in the seasaw. Ordered the metal seasaw, and metal control arm set for it. I have a metal tail and CF boom, metal pitch slider etc. I may put that on while its down. Got the new tail rotor assembly today for the 450. Put it on and did a test flight. Back to perfect tail control. At least in my limited ability world. I am really amazed at how tough these little 450's are.

2 packs this morning on the trex. getting back to basics flying. flys awesome. on the second pack i couldn't help myself and started doing flips. i did 4 flips (3 perfectly) and 1 roll. . NO CRASH. i already flown 10 packs on it. and it keeps getting better and better.

there is one issue to deal with (there's always something):

the tail would kick once in a long while. the tension on the belt is perfect. tail servo has maximum throw both ways with no binding. gyro is holding the tail solid. i did have three major crashes with the 9650 servo. DO you guys think that the servo is stripped? i don't hear any clicking. its smooth going both ways. i guess i'm going to order another 9650 and also get the replacement gears and open it up to take a looksee.

other than that i'm quite pleased with the trex450sa.
