So I take it you don't like it to much..? Whats so bad about it? You get to design buildings and houses to your likeing, watch it progress over time, and then finally you get to say "I built that" in the end. That sounds pretty promising to me.[)]

Design anything thats not for yourself and you wont get to design it to your liking. Some people don't like that, some see it as more of a challenge.

actually i like it alot. (sometimes) i dont get to design anything the way i want tho. i have to do what the architect wants as long as it complies with the current hurricane codes. but sometimes architects up north dont understand anything about hurricane codes and so you end up getting in huge arguments trying to explain it to them. (so much for not killing the messenger). however i do like showing people all the jobs ive done so i guess as with alot of jobs it has its upd and downs. (unless youre a road paver in florida. then everything is just straight)[)]

when you're working/designing/building something for somebody else
you very seldom get to do it to your liking

you may get to contribute ideas
or an overall theme
but
in the end
it's what the customer wants
that gets built

now
once you get a client base
you will probably get more freedom

but that takes time
lots and lots of hard, often boring and unrewarding work
and a fair amount of luck

that's why, imo, it's important to like what you do
so even the boring stuff
is tolerable
while you work through to
the good stuff

That sounds pretty good to me. I like the idea of building to other peoples expectations but still be able to put some of my own creativity to work. Because then I don't always have to start something from scratch without any idea of what I'm building. I actually have a project I'm working on now. I'm building a two story house out of balsa wood and glue. Its a school project so I only have the foundation and most of the first floor done. I took it home over the vacation so I can get more hours in. I plan to finish all the flooring and the staircase by the end of this week. I can't wait see what it looks like at the end.
