Hi Edu,
I guess your question or concern is how to go about tinting the canopy?

OK, there are a couple ways to do it.

One is with spray can tint which in my opinion is not the best way to do it. I have had fuzz, runs, drips and a frosty look at best when done. This is with Testors Spray Tint.

The other way is to soak it in water and clothes dye, here it is called "Rit" and comes in a bunch of colors.

I never done it that way but seen others come out real nice, I haven't been able to use the "Search this thread" to find out where guys have already talked about it, but I know there's been a lot of discussion on it in one of these threads around here...

Get this, I use it all the time and works quite well since is is meant for lexan type plastics. Testors is not.

If your going to paint it, I would mask off the whole outside of the canopy and just paint the inside. That way the canopy can be cleaned up or even re-polished without hurting the tint, plus the tint might not be fuel proof either.

Ya, I forgot to mention that it should be applied to the inside of the canopy, not the outside.

RIT black dye, in hot water straight out of the tap. Submerge the canopy in it and let it sit until it's reached the darkness you want. Gives a lovely streak-free 'smoked' color, and isn't affected by fuel (and you can paint over it too).

If you use just black dye, the tint will be very brown in color. If you want a smoke tint, you need to use black and navy blue.

If you're going to use the RIT dye, make sure the water temp has cooled to where you can put your hand into it.

If the water is too hot, it will deform your canopy, also keep your canopy intact, do not trim before dying in hot water or the edges may roll up.
ask me how I know!
If your going to use paint, stay away from black, as black absorbs heat from the sun and could deform your canopy. or you could keep it covered.
