Hi Dick,

I see you've finished the wings before I managed to find a picture of the aircraft. Do you intend to use up ALL the balsa in the world.

I didn't have to look for the Channel Wing, I found that very interesting. It should have a very short take off but what about landing?

It's good to see that RCU is back up to speed and no longer closed for maintenance.

still trying to glue all of the fuselage stringers in straight lines on each fuselage side. took a couple days off and sure forgot a few things. sure is easy to lay down for another nap. no rain for last couple of days, more scheduled for tomorrow. may finish up the rest of parts plans and then shave more balsa for the fuselage. havn't ordered any balsa from new sources yet, still have a few sheets left and NO thoughts of looking for the next plane, that is untill it pops up. today was a nice sunny one, rain maybe again tomorrow. should get busy and finish the Monster TB-1 and its 2 pursuit fighters. did get the big backdrop sign letters finished and waiting for Penny's direction of where to cut them out, then the rest of the project is to assemble everything together and hang it in the library window. right now she is sorta hamstrung, her main helper fell the other day, playing with Penny's great grandson, tripped and broke her right wrist. now waiting for Dr's go ahead of what kind of plaster cast/splint to apply. she's 60 + years young. Nadine doing super, had another medicine port flush yesterday. medicine today is sure fantastic. looking through the Cival Aircraft book again and the Dornier Do 13, Delphin 111 (D) Seaplane could be the next one. No water around, but sure would be different. would have to make a take off dolly for grass take off and then belly landing on the grass. have to get busy and find the new balsa supplier, since Lone Stars fire, the existing pile is dwindling fast. have another super day. dick

sqeakalong -> RE: new model (4/25/2008 8:39:02 PM)

Dick, that is sure going to be a head turner at the 'ole flying field when you get ready to let her earn her wings. Looks like it might be a tad short-coupled so be ready with the reflexes. Have you decided on colors and motor yet? Keep up the great building and please show us more pics as you progress...I'm going to follow along on this one! Joe

here is today's status on the Curtiss Cox Catus Kitten. its a pain try to make 4 of everything. right now its the multiple wing struts. its proveing that a small bedroom itsn't the best building space however when thats all you have its enough. anyhow it sure looks good to me. right now it's at 1 3/8 #. dick

lilbutch -> RE: new model (5/6/2008 11:20:37 PM)

Hi Dick,

Are you building a model for the Red, White and Blue Baron?

dicknadine -> RE: new model (5/27/2008 5:24:10 PM)

NO !!! just for the OLD F-. all because NO ONE else will have one. the center wing is temporarly mounted to the fuselage, not decided if its perminent or detachable, right now detachable. will have see how it all fits in the car back seat. sure miss my van. spent the morning running the roads with Eddy, getting more gizmo's added to the diesel engine, etc, to improve the mileage, super big Ford Diesel van. they go to many road shows with their product. cement plaques. have quiet a few distributors around the country. toying with idea of getting a qaunity of balsa timbers, 6"x12"were used as dunnage on the ships, and ripping them into sheeting. fellow who has them had this idea, but he has closed his hobby shop and no further interest. might help keep me busy and also a potential market. time for lunch and then nap again. have another super day. dick

dicknadine -> RE: new model (5/29/2008 12:40:05 AM)

as I said CHEAP cost material. have top and bottom wings covered and 1st coat of dope. had ironed the materail on tight and applied the 2 coats, thin clear dope. surprise, it didn't stay tight, loose wrinkles all over and lots of fuzz. have reheated it and tried to smooth out the wrinlkes, not much success. they came back. have tried sanding the wrinkles out, not much sucess. almost ready rip it all off and use the last of my Coverite. anybody got any suggestions ?? it was a another good idea gone sour. thats way you learn. dick

old git -> RE: new model (5/29/2008 1:02:02 AM)

Hi Dick,

Were you using NITRATE shrinking dope? I feel Butyrate is in no way as good. I also hope the cheap lining material that I bought works.

I used to use full strengh glider dope, don't know where to get it these days, i was planning to try and get some from Aircraft Spruce. They do exist in UK as well as USA.

The full plan was to find somewhere nearby or while on holiday and buy some spruce at the same tims.
