Hi falling leaf/silver fern?

With my second Ultimate I chose the following scheme. I know, I know, I went a little crazy with the star stencils.

Cheers,

Colin

Crash Campbell,

No Just falling leaf....or All Black! I always thought the most hard to evade combat manouver in an aircraft would be to replicate a falling leaf as it is so unpredictable, so used it as my name. Sadly, I think only something like a UFO could move in such a manner!

That looks pretty cool!

Mark

Hi Mark,

Hopefully the Wallabies may give the All Blacks a "run for their money" in the Bledisloe cup this year. I'm an eternal optomist!

Your build looks good and I second your idea of changing the U/C.

The mods on mine are alloy mains bolted with 1/4" nylon bolts to a piece of alloy angle, cf tailwheel assembly, fiberglass cowl, pull/pull on individual elevator halves as well as the rudder, two servos for the four ailerons and powered with a Saito 125a. Set your control throws to the recommended for the test flight but make sure the elevators are on dual rates for landing the min throws arn't sufficient to flair properly. Make sure you have the strip before reducing power to sink in, (from about 1/4 throttle on mine).

Good luck,

Colin

Yeah, they are both as unpredictable as eachother when it comes to the punter spicking who is going to win. Not sure about our side this season so old Richie Macaw seems to be on form...

Nylon bolts sounds like a good idea though 1/4" is pretty massive for the LG. I guess it is good though so if you have a rough landing the bolts will hopfull give out before the LG takes the mounting block withi it! I have reinforced mine using 1/4" aircraft ply and a small fiberglass veneer to join the block to the fuse. Probably overkill but oh well! I may just end up using 3 nylon bolt with blind nuts.

The gear block is easy to fix. The problem is the wheel pants go through the wing on these. Make the gear plenty strong.

Okay so this bipe is really starting to take shape now!!. Spent my Friday night (lame I know) beveling the elevator halves and the rudder, and hinging them all too. Then I sanded the fiberglass wing joints a little more. I was quite liberal with the epoxy resin so keen to sand it down as much as I can to save weight. I notice that the cloth will become exposed if you sand heaps, so when that happens I put some thin CA on it so seal the exposed cloth. The joints are getting pretty smooth so should show up good. i did mess up the top of the bottom wing a little bit and it is a bit rough, but no matter as thatwhere the fuse sits so may leave that uncovered anyway.

The fuse also got a further light sand and is pretty much complete.

I then proceeded to assemble the cabane and place the top wing on. The 'pin' slided in perfect once I put the 'formed top peice' around the right way (duh! ). Incidence appear to be equal on bottom and top wing which is awesome. I notice the struts did not fit perfect and slightly lift up the wings, so alittle snading will be needed as it is a bit too much of a snug fit.

Next up: Double checking the wings are aligned and sanding the struts to a nice fit; pull/pull rudder setup; more sanding of the fiberglass; switch/battery/reciever mounting.

Stil unsure how the balancing will come out...I may end up with the elevator servos in the belly yet!

I have never seen a model bipe in the flesh and they really are something aye! Far more interesting to look at than a monoplane!!
