I want a 500 sized electric heli for my next project. The Hirobo Lipton, Trex 500, and the Gaui 550, are on the short list. Its important that I can use my existing battery's from my Trex 450 even if the flight times are shorter. If you have built or flown one of these I would really appreciate your comments on it as far as quality, and flight experience. I am not into 3D, just fun flying with a quality heli.
Thanks

I just started doing Forward flight with mine. I'm very happy with it coming from a 450 the stability of this heli just blows me away.

I'd say hurricane 550. It's really stable, has great quality and is a great performer

I've got both the Lepton and the 550. It depends on what you're budget is... the Lepton is quite a bit more expensive.

As always thanks. Druss, if you take budget out of the picture and parts cost, what is your opnion of quality? I understand cost vs quality is a factor in the final decision but I am thinking this is a heli I will have for a long time. Although I am a newbe to heli, I have paid a price for buying lower quality then buying it again only higher quality. Not much of a saving there. The read on the Lepton sounds like if fly's on rails. I love the idea of a torque tube tail drive. The guys here speak VERY highly of the 550 and I am looking hard at Flying Hobby. I am not concerned about the frame material to much on what ever I get, but I KNOW I want a metal head and tail.

The metal head and tail aren't that important, some parts are more important than others. For instance, metal blade holders offer no performance advantage over plastic ones. Out of your three choices, I'd go with the Lepton. I have the full CF and CNC hurricane and while it's a very nice heli for a good price, the Lepton just seems better built and designed. The Japanese really do make better quality most of the time.

I agree the Hirobo kits look like they are great quality. I watched a Lipton do big loops that were amazing. I struggled with my choice and likely it will not be the end of it in the long run. I chose the Trex 500 only because I was offered a deal I could not refuse. I think the good news is that they are all good heli's. Mine will be here this week.

those would work... it's just that no one has reported anything.. good or bad on the Gaui gyro. that's why I linked the ones that had the gy401..

They come with 2200mah 25c batteries. is this enough power for good 3D flying?? or should I get 3300's? or 4s1p? what kind of flight time can I expect with the 2200's?
