Status: offline 		Is there any way to load test the a123 batteries. I was told that A123 cells cannot be load tested accuratly because of thier design?

Before i fly i always use my load tester to make sure my batteries are in good shape, even though you can test the battery voltage does not mean that the battery has enough current to power your reciever or your electric motor. I know that you can charge the battery and see how much current you are putting in it but you still cannot tell if there is something wrong with the battery, because of not being able to load test it.

Could someone help me out here?

Status: offline 		I use a CBA from West Mountain Radio to run constant rate discharge test. It is limited to approx. 100 watts so not real useful for packs over 2S but good for single cell tresting.

I use an in-line watt meter to test new power setups in the air craft prior to flight and I use an in flight data logger.

One of my A123 fueled aircraft.

for a receiver pack- the answer is no
you need to use a setup such as the Cellpro 4 which tells you the state of charge.
OR learn to log the number of flights and the amount of amps used it is very easy to do

Status: offline 		I am in the process of adapting a Hypersonic 2300 6.6v battery for use in a 60 size UltraStick. I am using the Sonic charger to charge the battery.

I did a capacity test by discharging the battery with an Accu-Cycle Elite set at 5 cells NiCad and cut off voltage of 1.2 volts per cell. This stopped the discharge at 6 volts. The max discharge I could get was 1.6 amps. Should be a good test for a receiver battery.

I am going to use a Kodiak Switch in the plane. The Kodiak keeps track of the milliamp hours that the battery supplies. I decided to do this as the voltage of the battery does not give a good indication of the charge state. Also you do not have to keep track of the number and length of the flights between charges. The Kodiak is light weight enough for a 60 size plane.
