Hi everyone, I need a little help with a rc project I decided to take on.
First of all, if this is in the wrong section, I appologize. I figgured it would fit best here based on the section description.
Background:
A couple weeks back, I got ahold an old broken microwave and got an idea to make a custom RC from it and some old rc car parts. After turning the microwave into parts (some of the most fun I've had with deconstructing soething in a long time) I started doing a (VERY) rough sketch of my ideas and found that I either need to use four motors, or four motors and an electromagnet (explaination further down). Which brought me to my issues.
Design:
Using the baseplate of the microwave frame after I cut it carfully into shape and verious other pieces (both from the microwave and the rs cars) I want to make a 6-wheeled vehicle with a turret on top. The general design I had in mind is based off a tank unit in a RTS PC game titled Outpost 2: Divided Destiny (3D unit render below). Of course, due to the ammount of materials available to me, it isn't going to be near as rounded.
On the turret I plan on adding a crossbow (if I make it a functional turret) that launches something safe of coursedon't think the local PD would appreciate it if I had the thing fireing boltsor just a home-made model of a turret from the game (if I make it more for asthetics). If it's functional, I was thinking of usig an electromagnet for the trigger. Afterall, an electromagnet powered by a 12V battery can support a 20lb bowling ball (at least I think it was a 20lb ball the professor used in the demonstration). If it's just decorative, then I just need the four channels and will probably make it interchangeable should I decide later to make other ones.
Problem:
I only have a 2-channel circuit transmitter and receiver and a 1-channel circuit receiver (no idea where the transmitter went). From what I've seen, the only model sets that have 4- and 5-channel circuits are aircraft (which just happen to be the most expensive). Short of building my own transmitter and receiver (which I have absolutely no experience in and therefore am afraid to try), I think I'm stuck with a 2-circuit layout. Due to the fact that I'm a full-time college student, I have quite a low budget to work with. What I guess I'm asking is:
1) is there a less expensive way for an inexperienced person to get ahold of a 4- or 5- channel set? (all RC aircraft is too expensive to just buy for parts)
2) if it would be best to build it, is there someplace where I can find something of a tutorial and/or the parts?
3) if the multi-circuit method is the best choice, what would be the best method to combine the two control setsand possibly a third transmitter should I decide to go with the electromagnetinto a single casing?
