Hi fellow Rc'rs: just wondering if anyone thinks this engine has enough power to get a T.F. Stinson off the ground. I plan to fly in open area(s) to stay away from needing power to gey out of trouble. The OS160 has 2.0 HP and the ys FZ 110-s has the same. What do you think? I know it won't be overpowered at all.

It will probably fly it....but it will be on the back side of the power curve for sure. I would not recommend it. The ys 110 on a scale model would be pretty effective up to about 12-13lbs. Beyond that it will suffer greatly I believe. Plus if the model was designed around a OS 160FX....you are going to be tail heavy bad. The YS is about 7-8oz less weight than the OS 160. I would suggest the YS 140 Sport as a better power plant. Power will be close to the 160FX, and it weighs about 2oz less...not 1/2lb less.

I guess your mileage will vary.

Yes it is and I took that into account. Just becasue its supercharged doesn't mean it can pull a mountain.

I think the YS 140 Sport would be the choice for that model. The price is not that much difference. About $50 higher for the 140 Sport and it has more power than the 110S.....and oh by the way its supercharged too.

I would also go for the YS 1.40 Sport. Here are a couple pics of mine in my Yak 54 (prior to running fuel lines).[)]

Thanks for the info guys ... the 140 sport is so close in price to the OS FT160 twin that I think I'll go that route. The OS matches the weight req's better too. Thanks again.

Daveomary,
The 1.60 is going to have less power than a YS 1.10S. The YS 1.40 would be te only choice I would have for the plane. It has Superior idle reliabilty, without having to worry about tank location, plus the fact that the YS will have alot more performance.[)][)] You can mount upside down, rightside up, or on the side, and it will run the same. The YS 1.10S can probaly match the OS 1.60 twin for power.

Did you check Central Hobbies, they are hard to beat when it comes to YS prices.

... but I love the sound of that twin!! Plus 8,000 shares of Caterpillar stock that went up 9% in one day last Friday helps with the extra cost of the OS. I still might consider the YS 140 for simplicity's sake - plus I've never owned a YS. You dudes are great for feedback! Some of you must own YS stock ... c'mon ... fess up.

Daveomary,
There will be no contest here, since this is a YS help forum. IF you want the YS, you can get support here. If you want the OS there is OS support.

Where did you get that nice servo bracket you are using for the throttle servo in the picture above?

FRANKFUSS,
I made it out aluminum angle (1/16" x 1" x 1" .[)] It is rubber mounted itself, plus the servo's grommets.[)] I made another at the same time for next plane. It weighs 1 OZ with the mini servo.

MOTORMAN37, how did you get the throttle arm on the motor spaced so far away from the carb? I need to do something like this on my YS140.

Thanks

looks like he made a custom aluminum spacer.

You can go to ACE hardware/True Value and buy aluminim spacers. The length you want. Then drill them out for the bolt and use a longer bolt. The bolt is 3mm. Take the engine with you and test the bolt length with the spacer you buy. They also make those spacers in nylon and that works well also.
You can also replace the throttle arm with say a Servo arm, or make your own.

RTN9105,
My Father is a retired machinest and enjoys maching things for my models. It is made out of 6061T6 on the lathe. It is hour glass shaped to eliminate weight.[)] He made me three lengths to try, .25, .375 , and .50."[)]
