So my local club has started a class that I could easily (read: cheaply...for RC) get into called 1/8 GT. the cars are essentially 1/8 buggies converted for on-road use, and run .28s. I'd like to get into this class, and I'm thinking about grabbing an Ultra GTP (cost IS an object) for it, and running a bumpstart STS .28 (because I have one). Any thoughts on electronics? Since I just got a JR 9100 for my Savage, I figured I'd gank the old Airtronics 94162 from it and running it in said car. What about body options? Tires would probably be Panther's 1/8 slicks or GRP premounted hoops...but I'll find out what everybody else is running.

That being said...thanks for any input...and as many posts as I've made, I apologize in advance if a search would have helped. OOPS.

I just ran my ultra gtp dirt oval chassis and it's awsome! I would go with rtr as it has a 2 speed already, the roller has a single speed and is slow out of the box. I have an axial.28 in mine(cheap)and the clk body works pretty good, nothing to compare it to though. I like it a lot and am impressed with quality and durability so far. For 319 rtr or 189 rolling chassis, cant go wrong either way, just not sure if rtr is in stock anywhere yet. If going for roller, it comes with 2 extra 1/2 inch offset hexes for oval(4 standard ones already mounted). Also comes with 14 tooth pinion, which is way to slow, 18 tooth is much better.
Oh, I'm using jr 590zm for steering and some cheap 12$ servo for throttle/brakes and so far so good! Was worried about throttle servo being to weak at like 40 oz.in. but no worries so far.

Thanks! that's exactly what I wanted to hear. at $100 for the 2 speed and $50ish for the body, the RTR is what I was leaning toward, but I didn't know if the roller had any better parts that the RTR didn't. I've got a bunch of 25-28ci engines to throw in there, and I was thinking a Mach 427 or my STS would give me the RPMs I'd want.

I've also got a couple old no-name 1/8 buggies that I'm considering converting with Inferno GT parts, since they're the HiSpeed manufactured buggies that are compatible with lots of Kyosho 7.5 parts. Too many stinkin options!

Oh, before I forget, the motor mount is pretty short on the roller. I was going to put in mach 427 but the spinstart was about a 1/4 inch to low hitting the chassis. If you have the bump start version, or a different pullstart to try it might fit, otherwise get the shims ready. I'm gonna try in morning to get either that in there or an lrp spec3, the axial just doesn't have the rpms I want. Also going to try 18 tooth bell, and then try some other options from the touring car clutchbell pile accumulating in corner. The axial is no super powerhouse, but it will roast tires at anything under 3/4 full speed so a good mill like the mach or sts should be crazy with decent gearing!

the GTP is a great cheap car, but not as good or upgradeable as the Inferno GT. Both are good though, and if budget's your thing, then the Ofna is awesome, great customer service as well.

CBM, I've pretty much decided to go with the RTR...but I'll be running a bumpstart STS 28. Through some fluke a couple years ago, I also just happen to have bumpstart engine mounts for a HongNor 9.5 Hopefully the stock gearing doesn't suck.

ferrari...the Kyosho is more than I want to spend for an RTR car I'm just going to rip all the guts out of...and they also have that goofy engine mount that I'd much rather not deal with. Now maybe if I got a screaming deal on a Kanai I II or III roller, I may decide to rock a green car Also, I've got a ton of cars on which I've spared no expense...so it'll be cool to compete on the cheap.

When I looked up suspension arms for the Inferno GT on Amain hobbies' site, they came up as interchangable with the MP7.5...what's up with that?

the inferno gt is a 7.5 modded for onroad the only tru diffrence between both cars is the shock towers, the shocks, the front center dog bone on the GT is shorter, the inferno gt has the 2speed, and ofcourse the body and wheels, everything else is exactly the same even the main chassis the only diffrence is the inferno chassis has 2 extra holes in it for the 2speed

also everything from the WC777 buggy works on the 7.5 AND the inferno gt so any hop ups u see that spark ur interst for the WC777 can fit the inferno if u buy it

So assuming I scored a cheap 7.5, what would it run me to put the 2 speed in it? I'm not seeing anything come up on fleabay

yup ull jsut need to drill 2 extra holes in the chassis

ull need to drill the holes about 3-4 MM in front of the 2 holes the chassis already has where the center diff mounts

basicaly this is what the bottom of the MP7.5 will look like ull need to drill those 2 red holes i marked so the 2speed will fit

Easy enough. time for fleabay!

I'm sure a suitable K2 or K3 (or maybe a 777?) will pop up in the next week.

im sure it would but rember the 2speed for the inferno gt by itself is kinda expensive i think its about 70 or 80 bucks complete, and the shocks from the inferno gt are 30 dollars a pair, and the body is expensive too, besides that the rest of the stuff is el cheapo like the shock towers and bumper

in the end ull prolly spend about the same as the RTR inferno gt but since ur looking for something like a K2 or K3 ull have a much stronger car

also how much do u know about the Kania series buggys, are they a little TOO old??? r the parts compatable with the WC777?? i know the SP2 and SP3's are. Honestly with all the versions kyosho has come out with ive gotten a little confused i just know the 7.5,inferno gt, and WC777 like the back of my hand (and the truggy too)
