But when I do volunteer my time I don't expect anyone, any group to tell me where I have to go or where I have to be.

Man, they do not make enough syrup to keep up with your waffling. You’re the reason the price of butter is so high…LOL

Hmmm...you and I differ greatly...when I volunteer for something, I take the job seriously and strive to be wherever they need me, whenever they need me but your "maybe if I feel like it today I'll be there whenever I want, when I am good and ready...maybe" mode of operation does fit the picture you paint of yourself very well.

Thanks for confirming that as a volunteer no one should count on you.

BTW Does anyone know what in the hell an AVP’s official job is... other than PR BS? I am sure they relay their personal feelings and subjective thoughts to the DVP and up, possibly to widen their personal agenda or for some their own twisted self gratification but really what is their actual job? I personally would be very weary of anyone that would volunteer for such a position. It seems to me a good AVP would be called upon for their unique abilities or insight but the others that jump up and down yelling pick me, pick me, most likely would have a chronic case of delusion of grandeur and therefore would be very suspect.

Again, STL you are wrong. Other than the above rhetorical, I am still wondering and only wondering about the differential that exists as it relates to TG. You are the one arguing for argument sake.

Man, talk about spinning and twisting!

We can de-cipher STL's message just fine without having to wade through your......stuff.

Your heroic version of volunteerism aside, no one in his right mind expects volunteers to perform on par with their paid counterparts.

Your characterization of AVPs as self -aggrandizing brown-nosers is totally unwarranted, unless you have some personal anecdotal evidence to back it up.

Of course, if you had such, it would have gone through your spin-cycle already.

804, IMO that attitude of lcs' is one commendable attitude and I wish many more had such, especially since I have done this Contest Director thing since 1963. Any "volunteer" that does/will not dedicate himself to the task where needed or accepted for, is nothing but a simple liability to the job being performed. (Ever think of those young people over east of here that are volunteers? They sure as _ell are not being sufficiently compensated for any thing they are being DIRECTED to do. )

804, you live some 50+/- miles from Muncie. You came to RCU less than 3 years ago, and have some 95 posts credited mostly in defense of AMA/MA, and the PPP, among other critical items about AMA's performance/s. That says to me that you do not have significant, if any at all, experience directing, managing, or promoting any model events, activities, clubs, or such items.

As a CD since Feb. 1963, I have been down that road a few times. That first contest was a Class AA FF and CL multi-event item. I have done many events, 1 to 5 per year including Assistant Category Director at the NATs. When I recruit helpers for a Club sponsored, AMA Sanctioned Event, any volunteer that says such as "I don't know, but if I come out there I will do whatever you need," well he simply gets a, "Don't Bother."

I fully support LCS' position and I see no twist or spin.

Talking the talk and walking the walk are two different things. In the real world, expecting a volunteer to give as much time and energy to a task as someone paid is a sure way to keep peoples' hands at their side!

You are correct about my directing, managing, or promoting any model events. But I do volunteer my time to the club for maintenence and club events. And I've spent years in another hobby helping direct, manage and promote. So, I do know something about the concept.

And I am quite familiar with your experience in model aviation, as you recite it in nearly every post! Yours is a commendable career, and we thank you for it, but coming on here and berating another for their opinions and thoughts as you commonly do is not excused by your historical expertise and deeds.

Finally, sir, comparing the job our armed forces are doing to volunteering for toy airplane events is simply ludicrous.

Have yourself a wonderful day!

Yup,
That baby is still just as sanctioned as a swapmEet or Demonstration. It hasnt gotten any Sanctioneder or Desanctioned any, from what I see. Hasnt changed since Hoss went over the Class B "restricted" thing back a page of posts.

Once again I find myself stepping in here to remind everybody to leave the personal insults out of this discussion. If you don't agree with somebody's viewpoint that is fine, but there is no reason to insult that person because you don't agree with their viewpoint. I have put out several reminds in the last week or so in several threads running here about this issue, but some members continue to personally attack others. These personal attacks need to stop here and now. If they continue we'll start handing out administrative actions against those who continue attacking others. If there are members here that can't post in these forums without attacking other members I would recommend that they refrain from posting completely, because if these attacks continue they will find themselves on Moderated Status.

Let's keep it civil guys

Ken

On a positive note, Greg Hahn is doing very well with his Beechcraft D-18 at Top Gun. He is wearing his AMA shirt and hat, so I suppose that there is actually representation there.

HOSS,
I can vouch (SP maybe), for LCS. I have known him for 8+yrs. If he says he will be there, he's there, bells and all!
