It does look great and I am glad you approve of the material from Dharma.

I have also heard good things about Thai Silks and have nothing negative to say about them as suppliers, however I have heard and experienced more from Dharmatrading which is why I think of them first whenever someone asks about silk.

Videos of the first flight are now requested for your LW!

I've been using the silk from Thai silk and I just placed an order with Dharma.

I tried some of the colored scarves from Thai silk to try and get the colored silk with clear dope finish.
I wasn't happy with the colored 8mm scarves.

I do like the 5mm white silk.
I just finished dyeing the white to red using Rit liquid dye.

I was surprised how easy it is to do and now I'll try a red silk with clear dope finish and see how it comes out.

Silk is easily dyed and there are some special processes for it if you intend to use it as a fabric as in linens or clothing. Dharmatrading has the materials needed.

In our applications the silk is not left "bare" nor is it washed the way one would if it were a scarf, shirt or that sort of thing.
Rit dye is fine and once the silk has its proper amount of dope, both the silk and the dye are well protected by most anthing we can throw at it with one exception:

Ultraviolet or as we most commonly refer to it as UV rays. Most darker colors will have a tendancy to fade in time. Red is really bad. Black and green nearly so. Store the models where direct sunlight is not a problem. When at the field this can be much harder to do but do what you can to help maintain the brilliance of the color.

Paul, what were you not happy with regarding the scarves?

To be conservative you can use the colored and yes thicker 8mm stuff as you would tissue trim. Cut trim pieces, dope them into place. Or you can use tissue which is much lighter since the strength is not as important with trim.
Better yet save some of the scraps of dyed 5mm and use it for trim.

Robert, thanks for the advice.
I had problems with the scarves sagging over open structure.
The silk was applied wet and stretched very taut.

After a coat or two of dope, the open areas looked loose and didn't re tighten up.
The 5mm tightened much better over the open areas.
