PipeMajor -> Crashed My Son's MUS Today (4/21/2008 5:32:34 AM)

He's only had it since Christmas and flown it about 5 times. We went to the field today but he didn't want to fly right away so I asked if I could fly his MUS - my first try at it. Granted, the Eflite Mini UltraStick with a Park 480 brushless motor is a somewhat of a hotrod. Of course, he set the rates on his Spektrum DX7 to high then handed me the box. It was a bit breezy today but not too bad. I took off, did a couple of go arounds then over rolled it trying a steep banked turn, wound up inverted and low then it was in the ground before I could react. To be honest, that was my first ever RC crash. Definitely repairable as the fuselage had some minor damage, a dent in the LE of the wing but I broke the shaft off the motor. I also crunched in the front corner of the TP 3S 2100 PL LiPo. When we got home I discharged the pack then put a full charge on it outside on the driveway. No obvious heat or swelling. One of the members at the field said he'd fly that LiPo pack again but I think we may retire it to backup service. I have Monday off so will spend it repairing his airplane. I can get a replacement 4mm shaft from the LHS I bought the plane, motor and radio. One change we did make was to replace the steel LG bolts with nylon bolts and they did their job. I suppose I should have also changed the wing bolts to nylon as well.
