getting really tired of dead battery's ruining my day so I think I'm going to get rid of that spin start and just go with a pull start

another plus of doing that is getting rid of the big heavy starter that i have to carry around every were and its like having to carry the radio, cars, and tools while having to carry a big havy brick as well

but are there any downsides to the pull start at all? there aren't as far as i can think of...

I'm with you on this one! Only drawback is when they break, and they all do sooner or later. Other downside is that an improperly tuned engine can give blisters and sore arms . I like the ease of spinstart for awhile, but don't miss it. I still have it on mach 427 engine, but as soon as I can I'm going pull on it too. Yeah, it can suck restarting a hot engine or one not fully broke in, but it is worth it to avoid NO starting due to dead batts.

I've had a spin start engine for a year now and i hate it. Yea its good and all but some days your at the track and the freakin roto start dies and you have to go back home to recharge it ffs. I like pull start but they do give you a hassle but its worth not taking the extra weight in stuff with you to run ur R/c

If one takes care of charging the glow ignitor, car battery, and transmitter battery then why the dead spinstart battery? I'm ashamed to say what batts I have in the spin start but they have lasted all day. In fact it's a tie between tx or rx batts that shut down the action for me and that only happened once. Old batts in the tx. If they dont hold a charge then get a new pack. blaming dead batts on the spin start is like running out of gasoline and blaming the car.

Sometimes there is no time to charge batteries for a spin start when you have some time to run. Even with half dead rx pack and tx batts you can still get a tank or 2 in on a moments notice. With dead stick pack, you can forget running at all. Some times I get a little time to run in afternoons and when I need to start it and go, nothing beats a pullstart. When I have the time to run a tank and I have dead stick pack, The time it takes to recharge is equal to the 1 tank I had time to run. A guy can't always plan on when he has time to run, so to say or insinuate bad things about someone because of starting preference seems kinda mean. We can't all plan in advance for runtime, and a lot of stick packs if charged 2 or 3 days in advance are to weak when needed. So...I'll stay with my pull start and starterbox, and be happy running when I can . Have fun!

I have to say that I used the pull start for 2 gallons on my axial engine and it was great when I could get the engine started. The only thing that sucks is that you can sometimes get a blister when the engine just doesn't want to start. The best part is that you can just put fuel in and go. No need to worry about charging and bringing a 3lb rotostarter just to start the engine. I did use the rotostater for my mach427 engine and the only convenience I noted was that in the winter, starting was quite easy.

A lot of people say that pull starts have problems but so do roto start backpaltes. The OWB goes or starts to slip and thus everything has its own faults.
I guess it all depends on personal preference. I have ordered the lrp engine and it has a ps...I've also ordered a rotostart backplate....maybe I'll install it once the pullstart gives out maybe after a few gallons.

I wasn't trying to insinuate anything or be mean. My charger and 3 stick packs are 10+ years old and came with a 15 minute quick charger. This is by no means fancy but it works for me. I do everything wrong when it comes to battery maintenance but again, my equipment is primitive but it charges the batts on everything and works for me. As far as a slipping OWB, that will stop the fun unless you can use a starter box. The bottom line is to have fun so use whatever method floats your boat. Now, let's all go have some fun.

all my rx and tx battery's are always fine but when it comes to the roto start I'm out there for maybe a half an hour before the battery starts to whined down and then i have to go charge it for 13 minutes + as was said before that the unit it self is just to heavy to be carrying around everywhere you go

Is the roto-PS combo for the Raminator any good. Seems to me w/o experience though to be a good compromise.

Heh heh, I had to open my yap, now I'm paying...My pullstart on a different car just broke, go figure . Now I wish I could just recharge some batteries, haw! Either way is good, but maybe that combo pull/spin start is the way to go...hmmm.

i use both and find both have there ups and downs. when your pull start breaks thats a pain and ends the day b/c most dont have a spare pullstart on hand. as far as batts dying in the roto start i have no issues with that. how many times are you guys starting your trucks? i use a duratrax 3600 batt for my rotostart and have no batts dying on me. when i go out with my rotostart or easy start i have a back pack i use to carry fuel, glow ignitor, spare AA and rotostart. so to me i dont mind carrying the rotostart b/c i carry the fuel and other things in there. this also helps when i want to go run deep in wooded areas and not have to go back to get something if i need it

Great idea, the back pack! Especially for us that like the "hidden" areas to run in. Sometimes I swear I'm an idiot when it comes to these things.
