Im having trouble meshing my gears properly. i have doing all the right things (I Think!) but my gears just keep stripping. ive gone trough 3 Gears in a peroiod of 2 weeks.


Can some one help please? Thanks All

Status: offline 		meshing gears can not be too tight and too loose. Position your engine and apply 4 screws but do not tighten it but make it snug so you have room to move it. When you mesh the gear together don't be too tight and then roll the car back and forth and your gear should move and no binding. The tighten 4 screws and then roll it again and if not smooth then you have binding. It's like trial and error.

thanks andy! i have uploaded some pics but i dont know if the quality is any good (Still have to change the settings on my new camera lol ) But if you can make them out do they look ok? Thanks!!

I've been told that you should shove a piece of note paper in between the gears and then press them together while you tighten down the motor, but that didn't work for me when I tried it. However, the plastic gear will develop a wear pattern when rubbing against the metal one, so once they're meshed too loose and been run for a while, they'll never mesh properly again, and I think that was my problem. I just bought an HPI bell and a new transmission and they didn't mesh perfectly at first, so I set them up just a little tight and then ran it & now it's as smooth as silk. Good for me, the engine is at the end of it's slots so I don't have to search for that perfect mesh again for a while...

Oh, and I had to clean a bunch of junk off the teeth of the HPI bell - lots of hard little pieces of the anodizing that was threatening to chew up my new direct drive transmission. Keep your eyes open for these, and break them off with a screwdriver when you see them!
