ILv2Xlr8 -> New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (4/22/2008 4:29:22 AM)

Anyone tried the New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52"?

north dakota kid -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (4/23/2008 3:41:36 AM)

i have been looking at the same one, really interested in this one...

fredira -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (4/25/2008 1:00:08 PM)

I ordered one yesterday. I should have it by 4-30-08
I will post a build on this bird. I'm going to put a Saito 56
in this one. I will try to post some video too.
I'm also interested in the 50cc class edge from them too.
I have been following a build on it.Just waiting for some video
of it. Thought I would try a smaller one to check out the quality of these models.

opjose -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (4/25/2008 5:51:07 PM)

I'm hoping to try to fly the 50CC version this weekend.

I don't know how many times I've gone over it in anticipation of it's maiden.

Yesterday I changed out the elevator pushrods, servo horns, and linkages, as I was not quite satisfied with the way I had it. I was not getting as much maximum travel as I expected too. Now I do... ( my horn arms were too short, I went with medium length HD Dubro servo arms instead, and Dubro snap metal clevises ).

I'm taking a camera with me, so if I can get someone to do the videos at the field I'll post them...

fredira -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (4/25/2008 9:33:48 PM)

That would be awesome.Wondering if it's going to float in like the big ones.
And can it hover with plenty of throttle left. Let me know thanks !

Looking forward to what everyone thinks of this plane! There were mixed reviews of the smaller one...

fredira -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (5/3/2008 1:44:14 PM)

I recieved mine and the quality is great. I have not started building yet.
But when I get ready I will post some pics. What other reviews have you
read. And where can I locate them ?
Thanks

fredira -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (5/3/2008 1:47:40 PM)

The only complaint I have is the advertized flying weight is 3.25 lbs.
But on the instruction book it says 5.5 lbs. Not sure if my Saito 56
can make this bird dance on it's prop.

rc2007 -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (5/4/2008 1:35:39 AM)

THANK YOU FOR ANSWERING THE QUESTION!!!

Their ad says flying weight is 3.25 lbs....I was gonna jump on this asap. But now that this plane weighs the same as all the other 55" aerobats out there, not gonna buy it.

I would have been pi**ed if I got it only to find it weighs over 5 lbs.

Did you expect it to be made out of CF for that price?

ILv2Xlr8 -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (5/4/2008 11:25:33 PM)

Let us know after you get it together how it flies!

joeflyer -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (5/6/2008 1:26:00 AM)

Any flight reports yet?
I'm thinking about getting one.

Joe

That is disappointing as the wing loading on this aircraft 3.25 lbs for the 508 sq in was better than the Yak's advertised 5.2 lbs for 616 sq in. Now I'm leaning towards the Yak if the Edge truly does weigh 5lbs....

Let us know when you get it together how it turns out...

ILv2Xlr8 -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (5/9/2008 1:59:39 AM)

There must be a misprint on their webpage for the Edge 540
quote:

Flying Weight : 3.6lbs / 2400g

2400g=5.3lbs

justdontcrash -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (5/10/2008 3:35:45 PM)

Anybody get this thing flying yet? I've purchased one and am in the assembly process (3rd plane I've built). It taking a long time to build because the instuctions that came with it aren't even for this plane. Any help on the motor mounting (putting a evolution 46nx in) and servo installation would be great. I'd love to see one flying as well if theres any videos out there.

fredira -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (5/11/2008 12:39:09 PM)

I bought one and received it about 10 days ago.
The quality is great. I'm putting a Saito 82a in mine.
I'm just waiting for the engine and sevos I have ordered
to start assembly. If you go to the RCU forum on Nitro planes
or Raidentech,there should be a forum about missing parts ect..
Ask your question there. I'm sure you will get a answer about getting
the right instruction book. Best of luck.

Thanks for yyhe tip for raidien ech or nitroplanes, i'll try that out. Your right, the qualitly is great as far as i'm concerned. esspecially the covering, its perfect! I absolutely hate ironing out covering on a brand new ARF! I'd rather be doin something usefull like bolting a powerplant in. Thats a good chunk of engine your throwin in. I'd love to see some pics or even better a video when you get her finished/flying!

fredira -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (5/14/2008 12:29:25 PM)

Yes that is a very big engine for this plane. But I was told by the guys in the Club Saito forum in order to make this thing hover at half throttle it would require this much engine for a 5 lb plane. I'm still waiting for my new servos to start my build. I did receive my Saito 82a. I'm going to be running a 14x4W prop. Not looking for speed,just pull power. I'm putting 3" wheels on it to clear the prop for grass air strips. I'm also going to put a bigger fuel tank in it. The one that comes with it is only 180cc tank. I'm not quite sure of this size. But I know it is less that 11oz tank. I also have to change the axles in order to put these slim line wheels on. The axles are only 1" long that come with this kit. No big deal though. I will post some pics and any thing I find as far as the build goes. I should be able to post some flight video too.

I still would recommend going over the covering with a hot iron to make sure that it adheres properly.

I also apply Top Flite clear coat on my planes to seal all the edges, covering and trim. This works great and will prevent glow fuel dissolving the adhesive, while adding a bit more strength to the covering.

The results look very good and there is negiligible added weight.

Is that in a spray can ?
I might have to try that. Thanks

ugpdfw -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (5/19/2008 11:34:21 PM)

fredira -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (5/22/2008 11:47:04 AM)

I'm putting a Saito FA 82a on mine. I want to be able to 3-D with this plane.
I have started my build. The instruction book shows the servos for the rudder and elevator in the body under the canopy. DO NOT PUT THEM THERE. If you take a flash light and look toward the rear,you will see two doublers the size of servos. Cut the covering out there. Your servos will fit right in there respective places. Also watch the alignment of the elevator joining wire. It is pre-drilled into each half. Mine was off severly and had to be corrected. The wings line up perfectly. In the instruction book it also shows a wire running from one wing to the other near the trailing edge for alingment. But they give you short wing dowels to glue in. But nothing is said about it in the book. But if you have built planes for years you will figuire it out. The quality of the plane is great. The instructions need to be updated though.

fredira -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (6/13/2008 1:14:39 PM)

I'm waiting on one finale piece. A 90 degree exhaust port for my Saito 82a
Then I can finish the cowl and put the spinner on. I ended up buying a Spectrum
DX6I for this plane. I used Futaba S3003 servos with a 1500 mah receiver battery. Set up low rates being conservitive. There is no listing in the manuel on any rates,only where the balance piont is. We will find out if this is right. On the 28% build thread the balance piont was off. Pictures coming soon. Hope to get some flight video also.

fredira -> RE: New Edge 540T -46 Wing Span 52" (6/20/2008 2:59:19 PM)

Well here is some pics
I put 3 inch wheels on it to clear the 14" prop.
I still have to break in the engine,but hopefully I will be able to maiden it this
week end
