Hi all,
my 8711 on the rudder of my Yak 102' has the jitter's and I was wondering if I should send it in or if this is normal? It didn't start doing it until about the 20th flight and it's on a pull pull system. My biggest fear is a hard over rudder in mid-flight. I have 5955's everywhere else with no problem's.

This is normal. 8711 has 0 dead band. Being a single servo on the rudder and not seeing the weight of the control surface plus the fact the tension of the cables are not 100% identical, it jitters to find the surface. With slightest amount of force, it stops!

Reason you are seeing this after 20 flights or so is that gears mesh in (not sloppy but mesh in) after 30 min-60 min flight time!

If you had two servos on rudder you would not see this because there would be slight amount of fight that would keep this from happening!

Reason you are not seeing this with HiTec servos is that they are not 0 dead band.

Tighten your pull and ignore it because once the air flows over the surface it will stop. If this was on Aileron, weight of the control surface would fill that small void and not jittering as result but rudder is vertical and its weight is not applied to the servo plus it is pulled by the cables.

I must disagree with this. I have two 8711's on my Dalton in a push/pull configuration. I also have two 8711's on my ailerons. I am getting jitter on both the rudder and ailerons.

If so, yours might have problems maybe with Pot or too much slop! You may want to contact HH. However on rudder with single servo this is normal!

On the push pull rudder, you still have some minor play with linkages that's what's causing it but if you are saying your aileron jitters under its weight that is not normal! Aileron should not jitter. Weight of the surface in a 35-40% plane should be enough to make the servo settle down. Push-Pull and rudder is very possible to show jitter a little but not normal on the aileron.

It's common for the pot to go bad, and the gears to wear on the 86 and 8711.
Once it starts, it's hard to stop.
If you happen to have two of them together on a rudder, you can fool it by adjusting the sub trim on each servo.
This sort of takes care of it for awhile, but the pot and gears don't get any better.

I replaced one 8611a on my 102 rudder with a single 5955, and for my style of flying, it's working fine.
I do a lot of slow to moderate freestyle and 3D, so it works for me.
