I'm getting ready to start my GSP Katana 140, I bought a set of aluminum control horns at Toledo, but It was pointed out by a friend that if the horn is mounted in the hard point, the stand off (the part the pushrod connects to) will not reach out to the hinge line. I know it is important to have it on the hinge line when running pull-pull as well as having the servo arm and pull-pull horns the same length to avoid one line going slack, but is it that important to have the pivot point on the hinge line when using sold pushrods and one servo per surface?

Thanks,

Jon

Having the hinge point of the aileron and horn offset introduces mechanical aileron diferential. On some planes that's great. But on aerobatic planes it's not a good idea.

Of course if you have a computer radio you can "program" this out. Or you can build your link slightly longer, and then rotate the servo horn away from the aileron the same angular distance as the swivel's hinge is to the aileron hinge.

Rule of 90's is really the right way to do this. Can you find a longer swivel? I was looking at this one style that uses a cotter pin to hold the hinge pin. It's either Sulivan or Dubro. Can't remember. But it was pretty long!

That may give you the distance you need to get over the aileron hinge point.

Hope this is clear-er than mud :

Best of luck,

Scott
