flyinrog -> racer question (4/22/2008 1:42:49 PM)

Vicman if your watching you probably know this....I have seen in the AMA mag pics of racers with well not swept wings, but swept back wing tips, but not the names..I guess bird like wings is the best description I can think of, what are these?...are they kits or arf's ??...I race 1/2a stuff when I'm not the caller, I just like the look of these birds and wonder what they are....either pics or links would help, looking for .40 size ...Rog

diggs_74 -> RE: racer question (4/22/2008 2:08:23 PM)

Are you referring to something like this? http://www.bigbruceracing.com/prod03.htm

I saw one fly for the first time last weekend and it was great.. Very fast..

flyinrog -> RE: racer question (4/22/2008 11:03:44 PM)

Yea thats the look, but I'm not payin 1k for a plane of any type, thanks Diggs....any cheaper planes/kits out there?...Rog

skull1971 -> RE: racer question (4/22/2008 11:35:03 PM)

For F3D,,,, good luck, ya need DEEP pockets for those. Look at Mathey(sp?) models. Kevin has a couple Q-40 kits at a great price.

flyinrog -> RE: racer question (4/23/2008 1:06:16 AM)

I think you meant this one

http://www.matneymodels.com/q500.html

skull1971 -> RE: racer question (4/23/2008 2:01:11 AM)

No , thats a 428, Q-500. Look at the quarter midget racers.

flyinrog -> RE: racer question (4/23/2008 12:17:08 PM)

Hahaha no sorry, I meant the name Matney not Mathey, it took me a while to find ,,somebody named Mathey actually builds the pylons for the pylon races...in our 1/2a races one of the guys brings his daughters horse jumping practice poles....Rog

skull1971 -> RE: racer question (4/23/2008 4:06:09 PM)

That's ok Rog, I can't remember my name half the time [:D]

flyinrog -> RE: racer question (4/26/2008 11:58:18 PM)

ok I found an old blow molded fuse and am gonna make a .15 size sheet wing racer out of it ,,just for my own interest, I looked at the 1/4 midget racers and , funny thing, I had a Rivets (1/2a size) kitted a couple of years ago, still have a few....we have a cox reedie racer pylon event twice a year here,,and I have about a hundred projects going on all over the house, ....Rog

Man..put some wing bolts in that thing!! Cool little plane. DO you have plans for it? I would be interested in building one of those.

vicman -> RE: racer question (4/27/2008 1:48:40 AM)

Thanks! I agree, it is a cool little plane. It's one of Rog's kits.
It started the day with wing bolts but being a belly lander and sustaining a less than perfect hand launch made the field repair necassary. When I got home I changed it out to electric and added proper rubber band pins to hold the wing on. I've flown it like that for about a year now.

It will be sporting a little diffrent sounding whirrlie thing at it's next racing event [>:] .

flyinrog -> RE: racer question (4/27/2008 1:49:44 AM)

I have the short kits of that plane,,I believe vicmans went electric, but I could be wrong,,mine had bolts but the fuse is so thin , I went to rubber bands too....pm me if you want one, I have maybe half a dozen left.....Rog

vicman -> RE: racer question (4/27/2008 1:51:08 AM)

Keep one kit back for me. I forwarded my extra to someone. [)]

flyinrog -> RE: racer question (4/27/2008 2:04:55 AM)

will do sorry you cant make it may 3rd, you coming to the fall meet?..

vicman -> RE: racer question (4/27/2008 2:40:26 AM)

I plan to.
If I have time I will be building one of your CC specials too. I will need to score an engine before then but the building time is the biggest issue. I've had a crazy travel schedule this year.
