I 'inherited' a half built fuselage and the plan (Airborne mag 'Krupp’s 1937 Bowden Contest Winner') for one a while back. Haven't done any more with it since. Looks like a great big Simplex from memory?

Hi all, I built & flew one of these a few years back . Used a Saito.65 on it (plenty of power). I made it so the caban struts bolted to the wing with steel bolts & then mounted that on 1/8" plywood that bolted to the top of the fuselage with two 1/4" nylon bolts . I had to increase the incidence about a 1/4" to get a good glide . Sold the plane & engine to a new flyer & it is still setting in his shop unflown by him . Nice plane ,MAX H.

Hi there,

The Bowden Trophy I remember was built by Colonel Bowden. It was a high wing cabin model of similar construction to that we use today. The wings and tailplane (horizontal stabiliser) were eliptical and the engine/nose was rubber mounted for "knock off" ability. The ignition batteries were held by bands to the belly and resembled an underslung radiator. I have tiny pics of the model in one or two books. I tried to buy a copy of the plan on flea bay but the deal went sour.

Sorry, my mistake, the model I remember was the Bowden "CONTEST", the other details are correct. The plan may well be in the X list of Aeromodeller plans. I don't know if these are available anymore.
