Hi,

I have a Feda Dragonfly which came with a Zhen Hua PCM-4CH Radio which has a socket on the back (mini 4 pin din) for connecting via a supplied cable to a com port on a PC.

I have been unable to get mine to work. I even made my system dual boot and added WinME just for this purpose but still no joy.

Has anyone with this radio got it to work with any simulator software (I've tried Tru-flight 3D, FMS & Pre-Flight all of which run fine but don't respond to the radio).

With the cable connected (of course) I've tried removing the crystal, truning it off, on and pressing the red button on the front of the radio (I don't know what thats for either?).

Any help would be greatly received,

Cheers,

David

Hi,

Sorry to say but I have the same problem.

Apparently the lead is incorrect as the proper one from thes/w company is Dongle protected to stop people ripping the s/w off!

I have only had mine 2 days but its frustrating.
I have mailed the supplier Ebay vendor HKong about this and he is hopefully coming back to me with an answer, I`ll let you know.

Have you tried changing the radio so Throttle is on left stick with rudder and all cyclic controls are on right stick ?

Hows the thing flying, cant get mine to hover.
Does yours have seperate Gyro and Receiver are all they on same board with one RED Led as mine.

Let me know

Adrian

I bought a legit copy of Ikarus Aerofly Pro because of the same issue.

Mine works 100% with XP, and yes, the interface has a dongle in it for the software to work.

Cost = £100 - a bit steep if you ask me, but I have 2 helis, and it is a small investment when you consider how much it will save you in the long run!!

Hi Dodgey,

Thats maybe the way to go I guess.

I think I`ll hold out to see what the supplier says but shedding cash seems the only way out.

What TX are you using, did you buy the whole kit complete.

Adrian. I can assure you I know how to get "hold" of most software, but getting a copy of a working flight sim with interface fore small money proved too much of a pain

I'm using a Sanwa RD6000 Super. I bought everything from Midland Helis (they have everything). I bought it complete but also with an Eco 8, hence the decent radio.

Dodgey, it seems you made a wise decision buying locally.
This is my first foray into RC just saw it and thought it looked like fun being able to fly indoors or outside on calm day.

Anyway live and learn I guess.
Will keep persevering charging batts again now.
Do you have seperates on yours or is RX,Gyro and regulator on same board.

Also on your TX is throttle and rudder on left stick ?

My pitch and rudder were on left stick but this seemed wrong some how, so I swapped throttle to left stik with rudder now all cyclic is on right stik which seems to make sense.
Is this diff between CH1 and CH2 radios I have seen written about.

I take it you bought a bundle from HK with the simulator included?

I have the Hummingbird board which is the esc for the main and tail motor. Gyro is separate. RX is separate. I am going completely separates when my brushless arrives from the US :-) Also going Li-polly as well - 40 minutes flight times!

Also on your TX is throttle and rudder on left stick ?

Yep: left up and down = throttle, left r/l = rudder (tail motor), right up and down = elevator (tilt head forwards/backwards), right l/r= aileron (head tilt side to side)

Sound like you have your terminology mixed up :-)
Pitch = swivel angle of main rotor blades. But you don't have this as it is a fixed pitch heli.
Throttle = speaks for itself! main rotor speed
Rudder=tail motor (rotate heli)
Cyclic (Airlerons and Elevator) = tilt whole rotor head in all directions.
Collective (You don't have) = Collection of Pitch and Throttle.

Hi,

I have actually got mine to work fine now I emailed Jan-Dirk at Amersfoort Airport (http://www.amersfoortairport.com) and he talked me through it. He was very helpfull even though I didn't buy from him.

This is what he said:-

"Hi David,

Well, here is how I did it (and it works for me)!

First I installed the software. After succesfull installation you have a new menu. Go to WindowsStartButton->Programs->Truflite3D.

Please read the readme file carefully. It describes how to change things in the software.

- I have batteries installed, but don't turn on the radio
- Remove the crystal from the radio
- Press the little red button on the upper left side of the radio
- Start Tru flite.

If I recall it well, I had to change my tx-settings. After installation a model apears in your screen. Double click with the right button in the screen (you probably won't see a mousepointer, but it works). The click: File->Tx setup.

Please let me know if it works. If not, I will try to help you further!

Can I ask you from who you bought your Feda?

Met vriendelijke groeten / With best regards,

Jan-Dirk Schuitemaker

Anyways it work great now. I even downloaded Version 4 from the the Tru-Flite website. Also works on XP if you use compatability mode.

I was very frustrated when it didn't work at first and even reconfigured my machine for dual booting so I could run Win ME and thought I had tried every possible permutation and configuration, but when I followed Jan-Dirks instructions it worked so maybe you should have another try with it.

Good luck,

David

Hi,

I got mine from ebay £160.00 and £15.00 delivery.

It is the single board version with an LED, but I think I'm going to buy gyro, receiver, mixer separates anyway because I think I'm hooked at the moment.

Jan-Dirk says he is expecting a collective pitch mod to come out for the Dragonfly soon as well.

Be sure to connect the transmitter and set it up before running the software otherwise you get a messsage saying it can't be detected and bails you out to the desktop.

Good luck,

David

Hi David,

Still no go I`m afraid.

Yeah I get the error message "Unable to detect TX Adapter"

I have the TX connected, I have the power on TX off, I have the Crystal removed.

On the CD ROM there were 2 directories one call Truflite 1 and the other Truflite 2 which did you run setup from ?

Also what operating system of windows I`m using win2000 proffesional ?

Yeah got mine of Ebay same guy CHOW CHOW yes.

I have had prob with my board (bad connections erratic servo chatter and tailrotor) and he wants me to pay return postage and postage for new one £50 total. I think I`ll get one from RC HOBBY or go for seperates.

Thanks again for you help

Adrian

Hi,

Yes I got mine from Cho Cho I think its a girl though because I did a credit transfer and it was to a lady.

I' using Win XP in compatability mode but I have also used it on Win ME. I suspect if you use ME or XP it will work. If I use standard mode in XP (which is essentially Win2000) I get the same message so I think your problem could be Win2000Pro which can't access the comms ports in the same way as ME or XP and not the transmitter/cable/setup.

If you have or can get a copy of ME you can make your PC Dual boot and run ME just for this type of software and of course games.

I installed tru-flite 1 then I installed tru-flite 2 over the top and then I downloaded tru-flite 4 (from the web site) and installed that over the top of all of them.

I had load of hassel getting it to work and then it just worked.

Good luck,

David

Hi David,

I tried it again on my other PC running WIN 95.

Yiphee it worked!!!

I had already tried it on this but not with you help ie red button and Crystal out.

Thanks a bunch couldn`t have done it without you.

I am one chuffed bunny!

All I need now is to get my board sorted.
RCHOBBY have told me I have the COPY1 version they say the electric do fail so have recomended seperates they are pricing these for me and hopefully I can order of the shelf this pm.
Fingers Crossed.

BTW have you tried the mod on the TX so Throttle is on left stick with Rudder and all cyclics are on right stick?

Thanks once again
Adrian

Great,

I'm glad it worked, I know just how you felt.

Let me know how much they price it up at.

Whats the web site for RCHOBBY?

No I haven't tried to convert the transmitter, but I'm left handed and kind of quite like it that way. I did buy a futaba Field force 6 Transmitter but I haven't got it to work with the all in one board on the Dragonfly yet. Don't know why? I've tried changing it to PCM and changed the crystal but no joy yet.

I'm thinking of going bushless as I don't think the standard motor lasts very long and I was going to buy a ESC anyway so I may as well get a a brushless one and go the whole hogg.

Cheers,

David
