I was looking at the Tiger Moth on the Nitroplanes site, and had a couple of questions.

http://www.nitroplanes.com/4breltimobir.html

1. Is this kit built to the same degree as your WWII ARF's? I.e. already covered, etc.

2. What is the wing area? The listed area of 196 Sq In doesn't seem even close for a 32" biplane. Could it be possible that only one wing was used in the calculation? As it is listed, the wing loading would be 11.7 Oz/sq ft. This is about twice that of the GWS model, which is approximately the same size.

3. I read "fold prep" to mean that a folding prop is recommended. Why is that?

Thanks in advance,

Gary

1 - This is a Balsa pre-covered ARF plane.

2 - Yeah I don't think the second wing area was properly calculated or added into the calculation.

However this plane is a BALSA plane as opposed to the GWS foamy, so it will be heavier.

I'd put it in the 10 oz/sq ft range which makes it as light as a typical glider, but definitely heavier than the foamies which tend to come in under 8.

3. - It's a mistake they are NOT recommending a folding prop.

Thanks for the information!

If I use the wing area for the GWS Pico Moth, which has virtually identical wingspan and length, and the 16 Oz flying weight stated in nitroplanes site, I get 8 Oz/ Sq. Ft. I am looking for a slightly slower flying plane than my BeginAir, which runs 23 oz AUW, and 9.1 Oz/sq ft. I think this model might work out fine. The price is sure right!

I doubt you'll get as light as stated though.

Assume 20oz. I'll bet you'll be in the 10-11oz/ft range when all is said and done.

That's still quite a bit lighter than say my Edge 540T at 33oz/sq-ft! ( 16lbs ).

Thanks...I'll take your word for it, as I am still pretty new at this. I may go with the GW TM400 then, as it is quite a bit lighter and even larger, and will definitely fly slower.

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help!
