Sorry about your loss. I don't understand how a mild vertical climb could put enough stress on the wing to fold the aluminum tubing. I've flown this plane for someone who had it so badly out of trim at first, that it went into a hard dive as I was trying to adjust it. It got too fast and dove towards the ground, so my only recourse was to pull up rather hard. After landing we examined the plane to see if it had been overstressed, and there was no damage, and that's after FAR more than a mild climb. Could there have been enough play in the tube retainer as you received it, that would have allowed the wings to move up/down a bit? I can imagine that if this was the case the lever "moment" of the wings acting on the tube, may have folded it, leading to the whole thing falling apart. This would reflect a problem with the wing tube retention itself or it's supports. Unless of course the tube you received had a hidden problem that was not otherwise visible. For yucks though, try bending the remaining piece of the wing tube and see how much force it will accept. It SHOULD handle over 40-50lbs... e.g. anchor it on a vise or other retainer, and hang 40-50 lbs off of it. It should easily handle this w/o bending. If not it's TOO thin or weak!
