I won a battery charger at a fun fly raffle last week. It a Dynamite brand (sold by Horizon Hobby), the only name on the charger is Li-Po Charger DC 2 to 4 cell Li-Po Microprocessor Charger. It has two buttons which are associated with three lights for each button. One button is to select the number of cells, 2, 3 or 4. The other button allows three selections for charge rates, 500 mA, 1 or 2 amp. It has banana plugs for input and output. I don't have any Li-Pos but I do have several 2 cell 2500 Li-ions I use to power the ignition on my giant scale planes. I wanted to be sure I could use this charger to charge my Li-ions so I called the tech support line at Horizon Hobby. I told the tech what I had and wanted to do. He said "NO, you can't use a Li-Po charger to charge a Li-Ion. They are completely different and if you try it you'll blow up the battery or start a fire with the charger. Is this correct? Airwayman

It depends on which LI-ion you have and the difference is going to be in the nd of charge voltage termination. If they are 4.2/cell like some call a li-ion then it is ok to charge. If they are Li-ion that use 3.7 or 4.1 volts/cell then probably not becuase they would be overcharged.

Your specific batts will be key to answering this question. Or your existing charger perhaps. Is there a link to them?

I use a Triton charger or a Fromeco Ion Cube on my TBM and Fromeco 2 cell 2500 mAh Li-ion battery packs and a Duralite charger on my Duralite packs. All of them charge to around 4.2v per cell. I went to the FAQs on the Fromeco site, it mentions 4.2v as the max terminating cell voltage for their Relion cells. All the Li-ions I've ever had charge to 4.2ish volts per cell. The info I found online regarding this specific charger says it terminates at 4.2v. I think I'll try it in a safe location.
