What are you using for canopy glue?

RC-56?

Shoe-Goo?

Epoxy?

CyA?

Spit & Bubblegum?

Tell us your preferred glue, what has worked and what has not.

How about glues available at Michaels or Wal-Mart?

Thanks,

Jon

I have always used rc-56, then I put a light coat of 30min+ epoxy over the outside edge after it has cured to keep oil, gas etc from getting into the joint. Never had a problem except if I ever needed to take it off....lol

RC-56 has worked well for me on last 20 or so projects, furthermore, I find should I need to I can remove the canopy.

RC 56 works great! Applies colored white and dries clear. I have removed covering material where the canopy sits, or, have just scuffed the material slightly (instead of removal) and have had good results either way. You can add a healthy fillet of this glue for insurance, and unless your aiming for static points in Scale, it will look ok. Holds very well too. I "dumb-thumbed" In an Extra 300 into a plume of confetti, and the canopy stayed fixed to the balsa, which saved the pilot!

Used RC-56 in the past. Recently switched to E-6000 and found it far superior. Quite a bit thicker making it easier to apply. Plus, once applied any "runs" can be removed by waiting about 5 minutes and rubbing it off. Turns into a little ball and comes off clean. Does not fog plastic or monokote and once dried will not come off.

Can be purchased at Michaels or the craft department of Walmart.

Heard about it on the jet forums. Used it on my 29% Edge and was much happier than with RC-56.

Guess another bump for RC-56. My latest bottle says Formula 560, from Pacer.

Thanks guys. I've used RC-56 or Formula 560 in the past, but don't care for it being so thin. I've spied the E-6000 in the stores and wondered about it, but wanted to know if anyone else had treid any other adheasives.

I've used Goop anp and Canopy Glue, the white kind with good success. The Goop has to be cleaned with alcohol before if fully cures, but man does it hold. Canopy glue is a little easier since it cleans with water but I don't think it holds as well. That E6000 stuff sounds like the berries. Will give it a try. Thanks, SunDevil!

Best glue is screwing it on lol. Can remove quickly and no mess. Other than that Spit and gum would hold goooooood.

Never liked the RC-56 and had little success with it, and it is a pain to use because it flows too easily and it really doesn't clean up all that well.
Now, on an ARF, I use clear RTV - about a 1/16" tall bead. You need to roughen up the canopy and covering where it will contact with some 180-220 and wipe it clean with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol. You then press the canopy on to about where you want it, wipe away excess with an alcohol-dampened cloth, then position it exactly where you want it, tape it in a couple places and again wipe the excess, then really tape it down and let it sit for about 12 hours and remove the tape. If any RTV has oozed out wher there was tape, you can typically roll your finger over it and lift it off. After 24 hours it's all cured and ready for flying. The RC56 seems to take a month!!!

On a kit build, I use a high grade of 30-45minute epoxy, and I roughen up the canopy with some 60-80 grit.

I used 12 minute epoxy on my H9 Cub.
Hold very well and on the windscreen, I got some tiny little #2 x 3/8 hex head screws to hold it in place. That way I can remove it.

I use a mixture of epoxy, microballoons, and paint (to match the covering). The microballoons make the epoxy less runny. I've used RC-56 (or whatever they call it now), and it's great after it dries, but it does run. The epoxy mixture doesn't, and adding the balloons makes it set up pretty fast, too.

I picked up a tube of E6000 at wal mart this weekend. I also got a sampler pack of all the Eileen's tacky glue series for under $2 at W-M. I think the E6000 will be the way to go.
