Hmm. I guess I will just have to mess with it more. I don't actually have a 360. I only get to play occasionally on my cousins. I do want to get one though, and a wii.

Don't forget, you can shoot the weapons dealer ont he first island in the face, and take his Desert Eagle, which you won't unlock until you've done over 50 missions. Also, noticed something else which was fun... Went on the rampage in an armoured truck (there's one parked up next to the gas station at the north end of Brucies road), and went on a bit of a rampage, just for fun. Eventually of course, I turned it over in traffic, causing a traffic jam, so I pulled out some grenades and started chucking them into the jam. When the armored truck blew up, it threw cash EVERYWHERE!!! [:D]

I just got to the part when I get access to the gun dealer when I was playing earlier today. I will do that later when I need a better pistol. I know where to get a m4, ak, mp10 smg, and pistol from now thanks to the map. Need to memorize where the body armor is at then I will be good to go on weapons for the most part. I definatly need to get some grenades and find a bank truck so I can get some more cash in my pockets. I only have just over $1000, guess I dont take enough people's money.

Foxy -> RE: Grand Theft Auto IV (5/14/2008 8:26:56 AM)

Money is actually virtually worthless in the game. There's nothing to spend it on, only weapons. At the start of the game you don't have enough money to buy weapons, so you have to find them, as you are doing. Later on in the game, you'll have all the weapons (which are expensive) and only have to buy ammo (which is mostly very cheap). I only have $30k, and nothing to spend it on. I have 400 rounds in my M4, 600 rounds in my SMG, 90 rounds in my combat shotgun, 60 rounds in my sniper rifle, 400 rounds in my pistol, and 12 grenades. I own 4 suits, and EVERYTHING that's available from Modo and The Russian Shop. Therefore, I have literally nothing to spen dht emoney on, except tolls and hotdogs.

By the way, hotdog sellers usually have good amounts of cash on them. And some hotdog stands have propane tanks next to them <BOOM> [:D]

Xbox 360 owners may get something extra to spend their money on. Microsoft paid $50m (yes, fifty million dollars) to Rockstar, for the post release production of a Downloadable Content pack exclusive to the Xbox360. There are so many rumours flying around about what will be in the pack, some claim even an extra island, with a whole new storyline, others, say a few extra characters and missions (much more likely). Some even claim it's going to be a nexgen version of San Andreas (due to an event in the 'normal' game), but this is absolutely out of the question. We'll just have to wait and see. I must say I'm disappointed in Sony not trying to compete with this, and if the DLC is really good, I will be repairing one of my 360s and buying the game again. [&o]

How much money do you think the consumer will pay though for the downloadable content via the marketplace?

Foxy -> RE: Grand Theft Auto IV (5/14/2008 2:25:54 PM)

Good question. I suspect it will either be free or a mere pittance, otherwise people might be put off, defeating the object of microsofts effort to sell more consoles to people who want this game (and the bonus pack). There are many people that already own PS3, that would still go an buy an Xbox for a GTA DLC. This is microsofts plan I believe.

By the way, here's another interesting titbit...

Yesterday, the game was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records, as the single biggest entertainment release of all time.

It sold 3.6 million copies and made $310 million on the first DAY.

This is a historical and significant moment in the entertainment industry, as it marks the day that video games took over from movies as the biggest money makers in the entertainment industry. To put it into perspective for you, the previous best selling game of all time, Halo 3, made $170m in its first day. And the biggest grossing movie of all time (Spiderman 3) made $60m in the first day (but made more in total than Halo).

For reference, the game is developed by Rockstar North, and produced by Take-Two Interactive, a company which one month ago, was fighting a hostile takeover from video game giant, Electronic Arts. The conclusion to that little episode will be interesting. Take two's share price is still fluctuating, but they had appealed to their board not to sell the company until GTA4 was released (a total no-brainer in my opinion, of course they should have, and the fact that the board was still considering it before release, shows how little investors know about the products their entities are producing). Anyway, I'm sure Take two's share price will skyrocket. GTAIV cost just over $100m to make, and Microsoft pitched in $50m already. So they were into the 100% profit area after about 8 hours of the game being on sale. Impressive.

Interesting times in the entertainment industry...if there was ever any doubt that video games are the future, it is now utterly undeniable.

It was stated last year that video games would over take the music and movie industry combined.
Its a great time to be a gamer.

I can't wait to see the next big break through in games, some truly diffrent and unique.

Could be like that movie called "exzitence" can't remember the exact name, its where they wore something on there head and they lived the video game in there head. great movie

I really did NOT enjoy this game at all. The perfect ten is so far off in my opinion. First off, the way the cars drive is horrible. No getting around that. I could care less how many people claim realism, the reason I am playing a video game like this is to do stuff I would never think about doing in my personal life. Nikko runs like an absolute <insert hateful word here> I have never seen anybody run like that in my life.

The little parkour off a high jump... how cute.

My favorite vehicle is by far the bmx bike, and the absence of that already disappointed me.

I hate how the game is practically always dark. It seems like daylight lasts for 6 minutes, and the rest of the time it's dark.

I did like the easier method of evading police, the autosave, and a few other things' but overall.... unimpressed. Sure the game is more detailed, but IMO a better detailed San Andreas would have been much better in it's time then this.

I just cannot get into this game. I must be the only one who doesn't like it.

Yesterday I played Mariokart, and I have to say, I am tempted to go buy a Wii instead of a 360. Maybe it is the kid in me, but I like to occasionally break away from the prostitution, homicide, and vulgar language of todays oversaturated video game market.

Don't get me wrong, those games at times are fun, but I can see they are making kids plain weird. I really do think the mature title should be more enforced. I see preteens running around smack talking, cursing eachother out, and acting these games out.

Not trying to sound overconservative but this is my rant.

Seriously, kids don't have to play games to learn to talk like that, they just watch tv or listen to there parents.

What made kids misbehave before there were violent games?

I would not let my child play GTA,

But to say games make kids violent and cuss, is a very simple statement.

DarkFire989 -> RE: Grand Theft Auto IV (5/14/2008 8:06:20 PM)

I cant wait for the DLC! Hopefully they will fix some of the car problems, make them spawn more often ( The Super GT and Infernus never spawn for me). Also, more stores so we can rob them!

ferrarimk13 -> RE: Grand Theft Auto IV (5/14/2008 10:54:06 PM)

is it coming out on anything else? i wouldnt waste money on a PS3, so i guess im stuck not getting it, which would be the first. Im so dissapointed.

That's something I can't grasp. Why don't parents let their kids play GTA and other gore games? Isn't that the whole purpose of the game? I could understand limiting playing time but harnessing your child from the world just makes them more vulnerable when they eventually move out into the world.
P.S.: Not targeted at you but to other families and one family particularly that I know.

sheograth -> RE: Grand Theft Auto IV (5/15/2008 7:07:22 AM)

Thats a bit of a stretch I think. Restricting play of certain obscenely depraved and violent games is a far cry from sheltering your kid too much. I totally agree that sheltering can be detrimental as well, but I don't think its unreasonable for parents to say no to certain games and things.

It 'might' be on PC by christmas. The 360 version is the one to have, even though the graphics are slightly less washed out and smoother on the PS3, the DLC is what makes the difference.

I have also found out that there will be DLCs for the PS3, probably a bunch of them, but that some significant content will be exclusive to 360.

Darkfire, there are 7 Infernus in the Grotti car dealership opposite Perseus on Algonquin, to the east of Middle Park. Use the map to find the Super GTs.

About the censoring, I wouldn't let anyone under 15 play this game, to me, it's no more complicated than that. If you teach your children the value of standards, respect and morality, you have nothing to worry about. If (like the radio ad in the game), you come home drunk every night, beat your wife and kick the dog, it's not the computer games that are gonna make your child turn out bad. The impact of video games on children is vastly overstated. It's all down to the guidance of the guardians.

There are a couple of Balkan countries (including one which borders the home country of Niko Bellic), plus Turkey which are islamic, and the game is on sale there.

But don't worry, I won't try to tell you that you make a lot of mistakes over it.

WELL.. I get my 360 back on Monday.. or Wednesday, whatever UPS decides.
Says it'll be here the 20th, BUT it arrived here in Memphis Saturday.. [&:] Strange.

I'm thinkin' it'll be here Monday.
Anyone that has had to send their 360's in for repairs/replacements, did you have to sign for it?

BUT.. once I get it back.. hellooooo GTA IV.. again :D

Always Dreamin -> RE: Grand Theft Auto IV (5/19/2008 12:11:44 AM)

I have a quick question. I am 30% into the game. I'm on my 3rd safe house. Algernon or something? I'm starting to fail more and more missions and I'm very tempted to start cheating. I was looking at the armor/health cheat, weapons, and remove wanted level. It says that certain achievements will be blocked, or locked. The "cleaned the mean streets", "walk free" and some other one.

My question is, will I ever want these to not be unlocked? I don't have Xbox live, and I don't see the use for these achievements. What should I do? It takes me like three tries to do a single mission now. I'm at 65k, and I'm starting to grow into the money more. I'm using taxi's to go everywhere now. Not only that, now I'm skipping at extra cost. This is the American dream, as Niko would say. [8D]

ProRCRacer88 -> RE: Grand Theft Auto IV (5/19/2008 1:02:46 AM)

Im at about the same point, just got that safe house in algenon and still getting through missions w/o too much trouble.

Only thing I still have problems with is eluding police when I have 3 or more stars, if I get that many starts and im not on a mission I usually go to a high point somewhere and shoot down at the police and shoot the guys in helis that are shooting at me. No point in trying to run an lose the wanted level because they are all over you no matter where you go.

DarkFire989 -> RE: Grand Theft Auto IV (5/19/2008 1:09:11 AM)

I have yet to cheat at all. The game isnt really that hard. I rarely fail a mission and never fail it more than once.[8D]

ProRCRacer88 -> RE: Grand Theft Auto IV (5/19/2008 1:12:37 AM)

Oh and Id say it takes away from the fun when you use cheats. Makes you outgrow the game very quick because its super easy and gets super boring real quick. I cheated on vice city on p22 back when I had it and it really took away from the game.

I can do the missions, I just hate dealing with the cops. They really get on my nerves when I'm on a mission and they will not leave me alone.

My question still hasn't been answered though.
