From the school of hard knocks....ALways mark the adjustments with something, magic marker etc so if you mess it up you can turn everything back where it was. This is Very important. I improved the range on mine by hooking a small hi-gain antenna onto a tri-pod and put it where it would be clear of anything especially people, cars etc. At that freq any obstruction drops the signal to weak. Line of sight is best. I doubt you can increase power with distortion, I use 500 milli watts and get a couple miles on that. It eats up batterys so it becomes a point of diminishing returns after a while. Hope this helps, Jim[8|]
