Status: offline 		I decided to start a new thread on the VQ Model A-26 Invader. This "secretive" model is promizing. I was convinced after reading a review on rcwarbird .com by Twinman http://www.rcwarbirds.com/Kit_Reviews/VQ%20A-26/VQ_A-26_Review1.htm. After buying and flying a Dual Ace by Seagull and the TF B-25, my obsession for twin and Mullti engine aircraft is now getting at a maturity stage.... here is a link to this plane:

Status: offline 		Keep us all informed on your progress. I have a VQ Me-109 that I have yet to start but I am also looking for a nice multi-engined ARF that isn't going to put a massive hole in my spare time and bank account.

This is the plane in parts and looks very good, no dammages from transport and very well wrapped. Not very big but very promizing for a 40 size. Take a look...

Will be up in a few weeks and I will enter development every steps and inform on any "special" methods of putting it together. All there is ... a picture book of 10 pages on how to put this thing toether, not for a beginer.

Status: online 		I have had one for a few years now that flies great. Powered by 2 Saito 56's. Make sure you beef up the landing gear mounts. It doesn't look like you have the new upgrade parts which consist of a solid fliberglass nose instead of the clear plastic and the wing tip tanks. These tanks actually add to the wing surface and make it more stable.

Status: offline 		Well this is the result of the first week end,

Report:

1- The nacelles and more specifically the landing gear attachment area needs some serious "beefing up" and some fuel proofing.
2- I needed to make measurement and the noze gear area needed to be enlarges and you can see from the pictures that the gear doors in the noze are small and cannot fit the retract wheel unless the aircraft practically sits on the floor. I figured that the noze wheel once down the 11 x 8 3 blade prop would clear the floor by about less than 1 inch... with the actual set-up. I decided to make my own gear doors to retract the proper lenght noze wheel. see picture attached comparing with the supplied gear "cover". this also imply that the doors will be functional in the noze to reduce drag and I needed to elaborate some system to retract the noze wheel and open and close door when I actuate the retract. I took the idea from the TF B-25
3- The inside cover of the noze wheel area was removed for it to reveal its secrets and it is well made. It is only easier to fit all the needed parts to install the pull pull system for steering the noze wheel and install the gear door actuators.
4- I will be installing 2 servos on the rudder system one for steering the noze wheel and another one for the Rudder and increase the recommended "throw" on the rudder to allow more authority on the "Yaw" in case of an engine failure. I am using a G-500A JR gyro on the rudder.
5- I test fitted the Canopys and installed the trims. Idecided that since the inside is "bland" that i will tint the windows to reduce visibility inside the canopys since there is little to see and I do not feel like making details in those confined areas.
6- Also got a pair of those YS FZ63S...11500 on a 3 blade 11 x 8 MAS...this plane will be fast and powerful and will scream its way through. I chose the YS FZ63S 's fot the only reason that I like to fly 4 strokes on a straight pipe. The 63's are also small, will require little cuting from the cowl and can run straight pipe since the YS do not need muffler pressure. They sound amazing ( I can only say one at a time because the only 4 strokes I 've heard is twin Saito 82's on my B-25). I have 28 engines Saito's, YS and Jett and nothing sounds like the YS. It is powerful for a .62
7- I also had to figure out many system and fit an air tank in this model. Where do they think the air tank will fit! even extra small tanks dont fit so i went for the small tank and drilled its way through.
8- The Comic book that comes with the plane only gives you some information if you can figure out what those pictures are. You do not need to understand read or write any languages, 12 pages (6 double sided) of hint pictures!!! I got used to print 2 sided instruction manuals from 60-70 pages book from TF or H9...

Thank you, did'nt found the A-26 thread already. Some Q?, 1) Do you still have wing tip and noze for sale?, 2) How come I have the early model in 5/2008?, I just ordered this plane, 3) Are the nacelles improved on the "newer" K version or are they still plastic like the one I have.

I purchased this plane after reading the Twinman review in rcwarbird.com. those link are helpful, thank you. I will however continue on with the actual thread and show all development and mod's I will be making all along for the coming weeks.

I like this plane for the ease of carrying it

Well in the last week, I decided to get to this Beefing up of the landing gear and the nacelle so I can clear my head and all the space in my Garage by putting together the nacelles and whole wing part. I did clear lots of space.

The Nacelles have been seriously beefed up and soaked in 3 hr epoxy to glass the entire area. I installed wood blocks of 1 inch under the rails od the retract mechanism and reinforced the front former of the landing gear area. The nacelles need a revision if you intend to install air retracts in case of a hard landing and to prolong the life of this model. I then painted the landing gear well silver. the tanks were changed for 12oz Dubro tanks that seems better construction since I intend to use a pair of YS 63's and use a presurized fuel system.

I then proceeded to install the engines and a creative throttle system. The retracts have been fairly easy to instal. The retract requires "intuitivity" because you cannot ust the height of the fixed gear for reference, they need to be shorter and you have to go back and forth to end up with the correct and maximum height. They are shorter by an inch compared to the fixed gear. I also used robostruts because I hate wire retracts. The nacelle had to be enlarged in the back where the wheel enters the nacelle and this was done by doubling the rear area then grinded into the inner wall to clear for the wheel and strut.

The engine is so close to the firewall of the nacelle that a lever system had to be designed for proper throttle travel and avoid drilling through the structure holding the firewall.

The nacelle covers had to be grinded, this is an experience in itself...those abs plastic covers when cutting with the dremel tool and grinding with the sand drum flakes like styrofoam and makes the biggest mess I had in years. Vacuum or not it becomes static charged and stick every where!

To motivate myself i installed the fuse and took a look agt the finished wing and see the aspect of the upcoming result

All there needs to do is install the linkage to the ailerons and the wing is done complete
