I hope to have my plane finished by summer but it all depends if Rotomotor ever releases the 170 engine!

Just finished this transport  stand last night- I dont like leaving the Cessna stored on its gear. (flat spots on the tiers) I used 1.5" PVC. Next step is to wrap it with oversized pipe insulation.   How does everyone transport their Cessna to the field?

LOL.  Don't feel bad, It is a bit tricky to do.  I invented some new curse words when I made the prototype.  Since I made all the jigs for it it's a little less frustrating now to reproduce.

I got busy on the 35% C-185 and didn’t have time to finish the 182.

Been there done that. The second Tmmy cessna I had the back section cracked off in the trailer on my way back from monster planes.
I would rather keep it bolted together although. Because if you put a lot of detail inside the bird it is a pain pulling all back out just to put it together. Plus I think you will do more damage to it taking the tail on and off every trip to the field. This new plane I have just gotten I put gussets all the way around the aft end of the fuse joint. I hope this will helpto spread the load a bit. I think I might even permanently join and glass the two halves together. But this new plane is almost ready and new pilots on the way.

No problem with that at all nothing to hide there. It happened and still flew many many times after that. This new bird I got I have to say is not Tommy's or his guys best work. I addressed the long laundury list of things with him and I will post it all up soon.
Also got to say Dan's rig for the control yokes is top notch. You can't beat it. Excellent work my friend. Dan did the mod. for my custom dash I had made for the last bird and it works great. Now I need to light the radios and master switch.

That is one bad ass dashboard! Was a little hard for me to send it back when I was done. (wanted to put it on my plane, lol)

Thanks. I can't wait to get them in and finish them up with all there patches. Patti at www.ProperLittlePeople.com did my pilots. She did the mini Steve and she did a mini George for me. Was not cheap but worth every penny.

Hi Guys,

I realize its been a while since I came online and posted. Not long home after flying my Cessna two days straight in two scale comps.

Yesterday I flew it in the strongest winds gusting up to 40kts I'd say.. Was very baloony and so I opted for flapless landing which worked out great.

The main reason for my post was to show you how I transport my TMMY 35% Cessna 182.

Second photo was taken after a practice session at my local flying club.

By the way as I don't own an aero-modelling trailer yet I opted to upgrade my car to a wagon just to fit the Cessna in.

Just goes to show you that a TMMY Cessna can fit in a wagon!

Just jumping over from the 185 thread and saw your recent posts.

Going back a few pages, to confirm, Tommy uses epoxy resin on his shells, I’ve done reinforcing to the 185 using West Systems epoxy which works very well. Just remember to scuff the area well before gluing.

A few alternatives re the flat spots on the tires. A cradle method is certainly a good way, another quick method that I use is a piece of thick 1.25” high density foam. It is primarily used for boat seats etc. Usually custom car shops that reupholster auto and boat seats have the product.

I have put it to a good test with the 185 and have no flat spots on the tires . I am using Sullivan 7” Skylite tire.

Dan, I agree with you, if you can keep the fuse in one piece while travelling it makes for a quicker set up time. I have tried both with the 185 and like the option of the pre-assembled one piece fuse if you have the room.

If not, Steve’s method is excellent. Good to see you back on the threads Steve.

I’ve never had a problem re transportation (but it is a tail dragger). Your idea of supporting the aft section sounds good and would give you “piece of mind”.

I also reinforced a lot of the “high stress” areas on the 185. I find the glue that Tommy uses is a little dry after it cures. I used a heavy weave fiberglass cloth cut in 2” – 3” strips. This was applied to both fore and aft sections of the fuse and inside the fuse at the firewall.
Another area of reinforcement was to the landing gear casing/mount inside the cabin.
