I just downloaded the free G4 demo version. I'm getting between 80-170 frames per second. Depending on what features I able or disable and which plane I use, either the Nexstar or the Extra 330L. Is this a good test to see if the full version will work ok on my pc? If so, I'd like to order the G4. I just dont want to order then find out my pc needs up grading. Thanks

The demo is exactly the way to find out what your system will do with the program.

Isn't Tower giving a $25 coupon with the purchase right now?

Yep! If the Demo is working okay on your machine, then you're all set, and the numbers don't really matter.

My old PC got in the 30's and maybe 50 with a photo field and it was perfectly acceptable for use. My new one gets over 250

Well, the addons 1 and 2 are free, and the others will be available sometime in the future.

edit to correct naming

How do you determine the frames per second you're getting?

Once I loaded the 2 free updates I found my onboard video wanting so I added a new graphics adaptor and everything is fine. But, I'd be curious to know how one goes about getting those numbers.

Thanks,

Clay

I think its the VIEW menu, enable the nav guides, that will give you a little box with speed, direction, wind etc... there's a place you can pick what goes on the nav guide screen add the frame counter.

You should be aware that even when you downloaded the demo, the program will behive different.
I have a computer with an Nvidia G-Force 6100
I did downloaded the demo and it work with no issues.
I bought the program from Tower and installed according the instructions.
The program runs too slow and the stick input is almost one second off from the real movement of the plane or heli.
I contacted Real flight support and told them about this issue I had to send the computers hardware info.

After a few e-mail they determinated that (EVEN THAT MY COMPUTER HAS A GREAT VIDEOCARD IT SEEMS THAT IS NOT APPROPIATE TO HANDLE THE SOFTWARE) (AS A SOLUTION THEY SAID THAT I SHOULD CLOSE MANY REALFLIGHT ADVANTEGES, OBJECTS, ETC. REDUCE THE QUALITY OF THE PROGRAM FROM HIGH TO LOW AND CHANGE MY VIDEOCARD SETTINGS TO RUN IN A VERY LOW COLOR QUALITY AND LOW DISPLAY RESOLUTION)

I have the original e-mail response in my computer and will be glad to share to anyone who ask for.

I am really upset because of the info lackness of these guys, the demo runs great but the program just doesn't.

They did not advertise which videocards will work or not with the softaware.

I am aware of the minimum hardware to run the software and my computer is overpowered but they think that my card is just not appropiate even that they can say otherwise if you send an email right away.

Well, sorry for the big post but I am really upset with those guys and the program just doesn't work fine, take note of my Video Card
NVIDIA G-Force 6100
If you have this video card, the software will not run OK

Even if the Real Flight support tell you that it will work.

The first two expansion packs are not free, the old Addon Packs are free though, only for G4 users though. The demo is exactly like the real software. The real one will behave just like the demo, as long as all the settings are the same. Some people expect the 3D fields to perform the same as the photofields, but there is a world of difference there.

Well, Ive had the G4 for about 3 weeks now. With my "stock" video card that is built in to my computer. The FPS did drop just atad versus the FPS I was getting with the Demo. The Photofields were great, the 3D fields and the "lake" flying fields were terrible. But I mostly flew on the photofields till now. I broke down and bought a GE Force 8600GT and this thing is a blast! My frame rates with all the goodies enabled is over 200 fps while running the photofields and over 100 on the 3D fields and the "lake" fields are over 80.. This sim really came to life with the new card! Everything is so much more clear and crisp. To be honest it was more money I ever wanted to spent on a "practice" game, but I think down the road it might be worth it. I've probably crashed over $100,000 worth of planes so far
