go on esky forums and read the feedbacks or ask people. I myself have Honey Bee King 2 and love it except its pain in the arse to keep the maintance up with the $$$ thats why I would recommend you to go for FP.

Let me first address the CX2 quality issue. It is FINE. I have had one since Christmas and all of the original electronics are still in it. Sure I upgraded to alum. bits but I never broke any of the plastic ones before hand. I have the original frame on it as well. You will certainly have crashes that will damage shafts blades etc but that will happen with whatever you choose. The radio gear is pretty good at least it's glitch free and when you do move up there is a AR6100 receiver($50 retail) that will transfer into almost any heli you will buy providing you purchase a spktrum transmitter(when moving up to 450 + class helis they usually don't come with Tx's or any other electronics for that matter so you will have to buy a controller anyway the Rx you will already have will save you some bucks later on) My stock motors still run fine and they have upwards of 200 flights logged on them though I do run the Xtreme 180's in there but that was a choice and not a neccessity All in all I'd say it's good quality although a bit more expensive than some other coaxes on the market. But you get inferior, glitchy radio gear with them anyway. Plus most LHS's stock CX2/eflight parts so no shipping for replacment parts where as most likely with another coax/fp you'll have to pay for shipping. If you decide to go with a coax heli for your first I'd certainly reccomend the CX2 over the others for just that reason.

On to the FP heli option. I think it's a viable argument. The Falcon 40 I fly is a FP. A Walkera 4#1 clone actually. At $84 RTF it is a fine option. the HBFP is not much more and I think of a similar quality with slightly better electronics. FP helis are by and large more durable and cheaper to fix in the unavoidable event of crashes than a CP heli. I am using mine as a trainer so when I do move up I will have a solid set of fundamental single rotor skills and hopfully save enough money in repair bills to make up the cost of the bird. Of course I will not know how much I would've saved if I don't crash but I do think it will pay for itself. Plus it's a blast to fly. You will however have a struggle on your hands learning to fly one. I flew the CX2 for many months before buying the FP and still had a very hard time learning single rotor. Granted the FP birds aren't the most stable things on the planet but still. I think I was on pack 10 before I got any sort of controled hover and then it was only for about 10-15 seconds at first.

Basically if you want to jump right in and really learn how to fly a single rotor RC heli FP is a good option. If you want something really fun that will teach you basic flight mechanics and control CX2 is good for that. Plus with a CX2 you'll be able to control it in hover by the end of the first battery pack. I'm not really trying to sway you one way or the other just giving you my opinions so you can make the most informed decision possible. Going directly to a CCPM 450 class heli may be what you want but It'll cost you a pretty penny to learn on one of those but when you do you'll have a bird you won't outgrow.

Man decisions decisions! Looking forward to hear what you choose and hearing about your learning experiences.

Fixed pitch. they are 4 channel helis cp are 6+ channel. the blades will have the pitch built in and that pitch will stay constannt. The CP helis have symetrical blades(like an airplane wing) and the servos work collectivally to change the pitch(CP = collective pitch) of the blades as throttle increases providing more lift both through head speed increase and pitch increase, The advantage there is you can gain negative pitch on the blades thus allowing you to do inverted flight and quick rolls, loops, etc. You cannot do these things in a fp heli but they are easier to setup and cheaper to buy and fix which is what makes them ideal training tools.
