Mike545 -> Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/28/2008 12:33:12 AM)

Im in the procees of buying a 90 size heli, im in the process of choosing between a raptor se and a xcell tempest, both 90 size and ready to rock, both used but in great shape, i have other sizes of raptors, my question is strait up which is the better product, i know there both good, but if im going to spend the same amount 1500.00 which is the beter value and more durable copter with all things considered, i know its a tall order,

ferincr -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/28/2008 12:47:29 AM)

I guess MA owners are going to say that one is and TT owners the same thing.
My guess is that at the same price the MA is better value, but spares are pricier than TT.
I'm a Raptor owner and very happy about them never flown anything else so as they say, "you don't miss what you don't know"[:D]
What about the components on both helis? Same servos and electronics???

jamesc43 -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/28/2008 1:07:24 AM)

Ferincr bring up a good point.

I would look at the equipment inside each heli and also look at the product support for each. You can
look at different heli parts vendors for prices of frequently repair items.

Personally, I have never flown a TT or a MA heli myself. I have heard good things about both manufactures
and the cost of parts on a TT seam to be lower. I have flown Century, and JR. My latest heli is a Hirobo Freya 90.

alfredh -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/28/2008 8:05:20 AM)

There is no comparison.
I have 3 MA's and own 2 TT's. I haven't got a R90 but have felt the heli. Just it's weight is far greater.
Quality is miles apart. Spatially a Tempest is one of the top level helies at MA.
If you want quality...Tempest.
If you want cheap repair cost...R90

Mike545 -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/28/2008 1:06:19 PM)

they both got futaba digital servos, 611 gyros, drualite batterys, the raptor is new maybe 1 hr of flight, the tempest has 2hrs on it, the owner has vision problems. from what im reading, the MA is higher quality, alot of aluminum, price is higher but that can go with quaility, im not a 3d'er yet, but want a quailty piece

evan-RCU -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/28/2008 1:19:40 PM)

What Alred says but at your level a R90 might be the better choice. Cheaper and move readily available repair parts is often as important as anything else.

BarracudaHockey -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/28/2008 7:51:06 PM)

MA's are great helis but the parts are expensive and they can be somewhat of a chore to work on.

Mike545 -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/28/2008 10:53:58 PM)

my idea was , to learn on the raptors i have, and grow in to the MA, its like owning a Porche, i added all the parts and stuff, it comes with the fia head, its a great deal, 3000.00 value. mike

evan-RCU -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/29/2008 2:19:45 AM)

Values are opinions... I hate to say it but it is. I have a 45k Corvette in the garage, well it was that price at one time...

Not to belitte the helo but value is in the eye of the beholder. $1500 sounds like a fair value to me, but then I wouldn't buy it for that unless I had someone that wanted to buy it for more.

Mike545 -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/29/2008 12:53:37 PM)

so what most of you are saying go with the raptor

evan-RCU -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/29/2008 2:13:21 PM)

No. But I would consider the Raptor and not just say the Tempest is the best. Depending on the odds of needing repair parts and your set up skills the Raptor may be a better choice. For me, I have a few helos and fly them very seldom so I don't crash often nor work on them much, the Tempest would be a better choice. If I'm where I was 15 years ago I would buy the Raptor because I would have had a higher chance of crashing since I flew helos alot more and I would have had to do alot more maintenance and such.

Mike545 -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/29/2008 8:45:02 PM)

i think im going to get them both, and sell one of my 30 raptors

evan-RCU -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/29/2008 8:58:39 PM)

That is a really good idea!

You didn't give us that option. Shame on you.

It is still a good idea.

Mike545 -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/30/2008 10:37:23 AM)

its alot of bucks , but its hard to control my self on these birds

Heli Head -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/30/2008 8:25:03 PM)

Hi Mike,

It is interesting you brought this up as I just finished a page on my web site - www.rchelicopterfun.com that talks about the long term value of Miniature Aircraft's Products.

I have owned and flown both MA and TT products. Yes I agree the MA parts might cost a bit more, but the huge value with all MA product is you will be able to get replacement parts for years to come - that to me is worth more than saving a couple of bucks on a part. MA has always been known for good value. Value is not just based on price alone, but how long the product stands up and the customer support that go along with it.

Both the Tempest and the Raptor SE are flag ship birds - but if you intend on flying your new toy for years and want the best value, the Tempest wins hands down.

Just my Two Cents,

Cheers,
John Salt

Mike545 -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (4/30/2008 11:48:19 PM)

well i hate to do it, but im getting both , i cant help it, ill sell my raptor 30 and 50 with the 2.4radio, the raptor to learn on and id like to compete some time, and the MA will be for that.

Mike545 -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (5/2/2008 12:44:55 AM)

i got one, one to go , ill let you all know

BarracudaHockey -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (5/2/2008 3:09:49 PM)

Thats one way to handle it :D

Been a while since I've been through Gettysburg, I miss that area of the country in the spring, summer, and fall

Mike545 -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (5/2/2008 5:15:34 PM)

i just cant pass it up. Yes G-burg is nice does get hummid in Aug, with the mountains no air flow, if you in the area sometime , stop in for visit, you can teach me copter stuff.

da_man -> RE: Minature aircraft vrs. Thunder tigre (5/10/2008 1:39:08 PM)

I a ma huge fan of miniature aircraft. I have 2 ions, 2 stratus's and a bunch of spare parts. I have also owned a few raptor 90's. I agree that parts and working on a raptor might be better. Once you get a heli running, I usually don't play with it. As far as crashing, Thats what a trex is for.
