Wheelnut -> Sky Rocketing battery price (4/28/2008 2:17:04 AM)

Not to long ago I used to buy the Ultralast AA NIMH batteries for like $8.99 for a pack of eight. Now they are $11.99 for a pack of 4. What the heck is going on. Is this another byproduct of oil price increases?? Or was this an old case of the teaser prices of a new product?
I would love some suggestions on where to get the cheapest NIMH AA Batteries. I am mainly using them for my radio which takes 8 of them.

Blame it on the US exchange rate and our reliance on imports. We hardly manufacture any of our own batteries in the USA now, and the dollar has lost 50% of its value over the past 2 years. Another way of looking at it is that imported goods now cost 50% more than they did two years ago. If you bought a $1,000 airplane setup from Europe in 2004, ignoring taxes and inflation, it costs you $1,611 today (EUR/USD is 1.61/1 today). If you factor inflation along with the devaluation of the dollar, the picture is bleaker.
