OK guys,

I am in the process of building my Extra 260!! Wow, what a great plane!!

I am having a problem trying to locate a place to mount the two RX switches.
I need to mount two RX switches for two 2300 A123 packs.

There is alot of lightening holes, and that limits the possibilities for switch installations.

I have tried looking at all of the pics I can find to see where you guys are putting your switches. But out of all of the pics, I cannot find even one that shows the RX switches. The manual only shows the Ign switch.

So my question: Where are you guys putting the RX switches??? Pics would help.

I know you guys are very helpful so I will thank you ahead of time.

Thank for your help!!

MR G

Ours were mounted up front just like we show the ignition switch. If your using two switches you can just move them up a little.

Mr.G Mine are mounted right in the middle of the checkerboard strip on the left side, I centered the switches evenly from top to bottom in the strip and the first switch is almost touching the triangle stock reinforcement at the firewall. both switches are mounted end to end and are touching each other. this just gives you enough room before the lightening hole. the switches are JR charge switches.

So, I guess everyone is mounting all of the switches up front?

I was hoping to mount the RX switches somewhere mid-wing or a little further back. This would allow me to avoid using any extensions and let me move my batteries a little further back to get the CG where I want.

I have been thinking to make a plug for two of the lightening holes (one each side), glue them in. this would give me the wood base I need for the switches.

What do you guys think?

BTW, thanks for the replies

Had the same problem and found only pics of fwd installations. This is what I'm using. Sorry my digital cameras dead, but I will try and explain.

I mounted mine in the rudder pull/pull servo section where the are two lightening holes on each side. I used the forward hole on the left and right side. I filled the oval hole on each side using lite ply and sanded it so when it was flush on the inside it was flush on the outside. I then laminated over this with 1/8 scrape balsa. This help hold the oval lite ply in place. Glued with a yellow wood glue clamped and let dry. I then had a place to mount my switches. Aircraft has around twenty flights and has worked flawlessly on two 1100mah A123 packs.

Used poster board paper to make a template that was close to the size of the oval. Then traced onto lite ply and cut and sanded oval piece to fit. Sure would have been easier had they not cut one of those lightening holes on each side.

Mark,

Thankyou for your post!! I understand exactly what you are saying.

Are you using two 1100 A123 for RX? 1 1100 A123 on Ign?
I'm using a DA-85. What do you have for an engine? Hows your balance?

Have 3 packs installed one on each receiver and one for ignition. I use two receivers even though I feel it is not really needed. Power consumption is low. I get four flights before I need to recharge. I put back in between 400-500 on the non rudder side and 500-600 on the rudder side. The VPX packs take only a short time to recharge. I have my choke and throttle split between the two receivers. Rudders servo is on receiver opposite the throttle servo. It would be the pack mostly likely to run down first if I was to miscalculate the mah usage. Since there are no ganged servos, two receivers is overkill, but I feel better. These are 72mhz receivers.

Da85 with KS cannister. Power is unreal. It rockets out of hover. Need to put larger prop on. I'm breaking it in with a 26x10n that I had laying around.

I have 25 flights on this setup with no problems. I'm not one to check the balance exactly. If its anywhere on the wing tube, you should be good. Then you can adjust from there for your liking. I just checked it to make sure its not grossly tail heavy and go from there. I know when I was checking it was showing on the tail heavy side. But does it does not climb when rolled inverted on a 45 degree line.

Two receivers and battery packs are mounted in the section fwd rudder pull/pull mount. Rudder servo is the rear. Throttle and choke are done like Joe H. did them.
