Not really vintage, but actually around 1973.

This great bi=plane was a fantastic performer.

Anyone know of it? I'm looking to purchase one built. Yes, the lazy way.

Or, is this model being "cut" by anyone?

Anyone cutting parts by hand, just for one model?

Please let me know ASAP,

Thanks in advance

Would that be the Sig Acro Star?

If so some older info that can help can be found here:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_421826/tm.htm

If not, this is all I have. Every one does love a bipe!

Good luck, Robert

I'm pretty certain he is talking about the Airtronics kit of the Acro-Star. They are great flying models, and very very strong airframes. Forget the 40-60 engine, they like gobs of power. Mine started out with a 60 and soon had a ST 75 for ballistic performance. The next one will have a .90 to swing more prop.

How strong and how ballistic? Well I accidently mid-air'ed another model that was floating by at about 500 feet above the ground when I went vertical from a 20 foot fly-by. I noticed the pilot of that plane's picture on page 9 of Model Aviation this month (May) from the cover of MA 25 years ago. While that airplane came down in a thousand pieces, the Acro-Star landed with only a slight dent to the horizontal tail. After about 500 flights I sold it to a buddy, and regreted that for many years.

Until the advent of EBray. The kits show up there time to time. I have enough for now, so I won't be bidding on them any more.

Nice try HighPlanes and I hope you live long enough to build all your kits.

I believe the model of which I speak was never kitted?

50 1/2" span, designed by Don Dewey and Lee Renaud.

Remember my original Post, It was about "help" finding a cut kit or one that is already built.

Be nice if this was kept in mind.

You can talk about your stash in another Post about modeler's stashes. That would be a Post with absolutely no value.

Charles

Well Chuck, the Acro-Star was presented in RCM back in the April '73 issue.

http://www.rcmmagazine.com/store/store-plans-catalog-tem.html?item=plans:pl-525&sid=0001A6VnNErJIlYpyw1U683

But perhaps you are unaware that Lee Renaud was the President of Airtronics at the time. So yes, it was kitted. So if you want a "cut" kit, then buy one.

Oh yes it is! http://www.vintagercsociety.org. Get the RCM plans and send them to one of the kit cutters for a short kit.

High Planes,

Yes, your correct, that is the model. It appears as though I was misinformed.

Thank you for that information. I get the feeling you actually know Lee Renaud?

Now all you have to do is sell me one of those kits?

I'm sure I'm worthy.

Possibly even a trade.

Are you feeling generous today?

Charles

HP,

Thanks for the heads up.

I allready acquired one from a RCU member. I'm waiting delivery.

I'll probably bid on that one also.

Thanks,

Charles

High Planes,

How well would an O.S. .91 FS do on an Acro Star?

CAP,

I now have two Arco Stars.

NO, not one of HighPlains. From friends just looking and helping out on RCU.

Which, BTW is what it should be about. Right High?

I have an OS 90 4S.

I'll use a two stroke 60 or a 55 in the Arco. They spin a smaller prop and I've had good experience with 60's in bipes of this size.

Now where can I find a third kit?

Charles

Cap, the 91 FS should be a great match with the light weight. I don't think it is possible to overpower the Acro-star as it is about the most overbuilt model I have ever seen. I turned a 13" diameter prop on mine, and it needed all the right thrust shown on the plans.

With the CG towards the rear of the range, this airplane will tumble end over end better than anything else I have ever flown or seen flown, yet is a ****cat for landing.

I started out with a 60, moved up to a 75 2c engine. My next one will be .90 powered.
