DONZIMAN -> Starting a Moki 1.8 (4/29/2008 1:37:00 AM)

Hello
I need some help starting my Moki 1.8. I had it running a while back but it did not idle very well and was tough to start.

I have difficulty getting it to hold a prime and then start. I'm using a dynatron starter which turns it over very well but the engine just wont start easily and if it does, it doesn't run but for a few seconds and quits.

Can someone recommend a proper plug, fuel type (my fuel is kind of old) and initial carb settings to get it going? Do I need to use a cline valve to help keep the prime?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Andy

Most people use an OS 8 plug but then others say a F. I bought a used 180 and have been running it some today. I am using FAI fuel 80-20 castor # 8 plug and ended up 2turns out on needle valve with the low set on middle mark. Mine also siphons back but starts very easy by hand with a backflip. I have 135 Mokis and they run great on the Fai fuel and #8 plug.
If I were you I would clean carb and try fresh fuel and new plug. If you have a good tank and line setup it should be okay. This one idles and transitions great.

Your sentence ...."a while ago"...the carb could be gumed up. BUT at one time I had three of those engines and they ran great untill....air starting to leak around where the needle valve screws in. Take some blue fuel line and cut a short length and cover this area and that MIGHT take care part of your problem. After a year mine started quiting on takeoff. :((( Motor has a big carb so fuel draw can be a problem. I used a hot plug...McCoy number 8 is one that I used.
