its been a long time coming, but here it is, my first 1/14 build..

as the thread suggests it will be the Volvo and the Tri-Axle/'Reefer' trailer for a 'Euro' look..

hop up wise, it has:

Tractor Truck oil shocks
Tractor Truck electrical unit set (lights and backing beeper)
Bearings (for tractor and trailer)
Trailer light set
Acoms Techniplus 6 CH FM radio

TBD:

Carson animal guard
Carson truck motor
Carson Scania bumper light kit
5 mini Euro palette's

Hamsterdam Special [:D]

Looking forward to the build [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

lee172 -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/29/2008 4:06:53 PM)

6 chunky tyres, a crazy amount of parts (including threadlock!!) and the cab parts..

lee172 -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/29/2008 4:14:36 PM)

suspension stay... massively long ladder frame (i expected the longer US trucks to be shorter than this!!) and oil shocks (blue) compared to the pretty smart standard friction shocks..

lee172 -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/29/2008 4:18:28 PM)

oil shocks built.. front leaf springs assembled, very robust!

lee172 -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/29/2008 6:05:36 PM)

front and rear wheels glued.. shocks mounted... front leaf springs also mounted

lee172 -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/29/2008 6:08:39 PM)

bomb proof diff with my own choice of grease (i use this to lube the gaskets on watches, so might as well use it on RC's..) bearings busted out ready for the next stages of the build..

carmadmatt -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/29/2008 6:15:15 PM)

Good luck with the build, I've decided soon I need one of these!! What trailer you putting on it?

Matt

lee172 -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/29/2008 6:22:18 PM)

i think this project is also going to be a replica of a full size truck, as they look awesome.. there is an Eddie Stobart Scania on TamiyaClub and its wicked.. currently in talks with a company that makes decals, its a simple design, but it should stand out [:D]

read the first post Matt! [:)]

Wait until you see the frame from Aeromax!! [:D]

Looking great!! I wish I have a 3-axle trailer!! That will come one of these days!!

solid rear diff casing! rear leaf springs built.. and attached to the chassis, thats enough for today... [:D]

Longhair -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/29/2008 9:14:12 PM)

Your frame looks kind of short [:D]

Hi Lee...

So you are finally into the trucks huh?[8|]

Honestly i would suggest you to use the MFC unit, its way better than the old light and sound unit!!!!

Look forward to see your masterpiece~[>:]

astroboycp -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/30/2008 4:53:25 AM)

Wow the shocks looks way too cool. Is it a hop-up part?

I am tuned in to this build.

Longhair -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/30/2008 7:24:05 AM)

The blue oil shocks are a hop-up part.

2 complete shocks per package.

as ive said before i think that sounds/MFU ruin an awesome scale truck and turn it into a toy, i dont mind the reversing beeper, but the engine starts, air brakes hiss.. etc i can do without, each to their own though [:D]

think the build may halt as i'm waiting for the Acoms radio, which includes the servo's i will use, so i cannot complete the steering/gears/trailer coupling.. but in the meantime i have to find some specific graphics for my tractor/trailer..

Longhair -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/30/2008 7:36:59 AM)

You could jump ahead and do the 3 speed transmission & tail lights - those are time consuming [:D]

astroboycp -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/30/2008 8:17:36 AM)

Any good online shop for ordering those hop-ups.

Saw one HK ebayer selling only the front aluminium wheels, I am also looking for the rear aluminium wheels so if anyone knows some reliable ebayer, do pm me. Thanks.

lee172 -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/30/2008 8:38:57 AM)

i did actually buy the tractor truck electrical set and oil shocks from ebay seller bboykorea382, and were the cheapest around, but then i had a big problem in getting my money back for a Tamiya Racing Touareg that never arrived, so my advice is avoid him at all cost.

my non ebay faves are..

http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/default.php (wide range of everything)

http://www.stellamodels.net/catalog/default.php?manufacturers_id=12&sort=2a&page=5 (best price for my Volvo, but limited for parts)

http://www.rcstation.com/ (good all rounder)

http://www.hobbydirekt.de/Carson/Truckmodelle:::220_231.html (rare Carson parts, but pricey and in German)

astroboycp -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/30/2008 4:15:09 PM)

Thanks Lee will check out rcmart. I am not too sure about bboykorea382 too, I've seen his ebay site and I find his shipping charges ridiculous. He's obviously making profit through the shipping charges and it's a hefty profit too.

astroboycp -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/30/2008 4:43:04 PM)

Ok did a checkout on rcmart.com and rcstation.com. Both carry the Aluminium Front Wheels and Oil Shocks but they don't carry any Aluminium Rear Wheel. Sad.

i found his shipping charges to be the best, eg: for my Scania, it was around 40$-50$! (Hong Kong to UK) everywhere else is at least 70$-100$

lee172 -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/30/2008 7:22:28 PM)

gearbox assembly, i killed a few e-clips in the process!

Longhair -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/30/2008 7:55:20 PM)

The e-ring tool is helpful [:D]

74032 Tamiya 74032 E-Ring Tool (2mm) £2.84
74033 Tamiya 74033 E-Ring Tool (4mm) £2.84

lee172 -> RE: Lee's Tamiya Volvo/Tri-Axle build thread (4/30/2008 8:14:27 PM)

i can get them on (needle-nose pliers) but i made a few mistakes, so the clips had to be wrenched off! [:D]
