nla_pes -> more on swash plate (4/29/2008 1:04:51 PM)

Jerry281 advised me to center the right servo (forward and back) arm on my picture included with my post of 4/26/2008. It does not work.
First let me explain: I am a new flyer who has been out of the hobby for over 40 years. The first heli I got is a Megatech Horsefly which I cannot fly for beans. I am very disappointed in this particular heli. Its weight and construction do not stand up to even flying in my house. The parts are too expensive for a inexperienced flyer. I then acquired a Heli-Max Axe EZ which over the past three months has served me well. I have of course cracked it up many times while learning and in doing so have had to replace the swash plate and the upper blade grips. To avoid having to replace them again I installed aluminum blade grips. Since the installation of these new parts about three weeks ago I have not been able to level the swash plate. I can adjust the servo arms to allow the heli to elevate almost straight up but the leaning swash plate is the result. The servo in question when placed in neutral always has its arm ether slightly up or slightly down, I can not get it to lay square.
Does any one have any suggestions? Meanwhile my daughter has bought an Axe Cp which I of course have not even run up much yet since I can not fly it very well on Real flight 3.5 yet.
Regards,
Paul

One of the critical items overlooked by Jerry281 when he told you that the servo horns should be 90 degrees, is the length of the linkage from the servo horn to the swashplate. From the looks of the picture, it seems you have quite a variation in length between the elevator & ailerion linkages.
The manual for the heli should note the length of the 2 linkages, they should be the same length. Then remove the servo horns from the servos, set all your trims to center on the TX, plug in the battery on the heli, and allow it to initialize (centering the servos). Attach the servo horns as close to 90 degrees as you can, variations in the servo horn position can be adjusted two ways: the easy way is to lengthen/shorten the linkage (so swashplate stays level), the other way requires disassembling the servo and adjusting the gear positioning (takes time).

Does the heli fly with the Swashplate tilted like that? I can't imagine it would hover without some correction.

Hey guys thanks. What I finaly had to do is offset both servo levers a little. One, one way and the other opposit. The guru at my local hobbien shop said not to be concerned about the servo leaver only if it flys well. I can hover fine with the the settine shown in the Pic. I can hover easily now and will continue learning. My big **** is I sent Helimax an e-mail on last thursday and have not had a reply yet. By the by I sent my AXW CP-L battery back on Sat. but have not recieved the battery yet.
Thanks for your help.
