PA BEN -> Good Pattren plane? Zlin Z-50 (4/29/2008 1:40:26 PM)

Any info on this plane? http://www.raidentech.com/zl12070inwis.html

psookdee -> RE: Good Pattren plane? Zlin Z-50 (4/29/2008 2:07:02 PM)

doesnt look like a pattern plane to me, it looks more like an IMac plane. I dont think this is good for flying pattern

The design it'sself -works very well - it is much like a CAP232-
I did several of this design for the TOC 1978(?) -flown by Dave Brown at the time (past AMA Pres) 2 or 3 place don't rememberalmost identical size. Mine were 825 sq inches and 9 lbs in silver CZECH scheme
as a pattern plane - it works wellif setup well . but the flying flounder look of the current pattern stuf -it aint-

Here is a picture of my Dad's plane, built by Dick H about 18 years ago. It is a great pattern plane and a lot of fun to fly. It is just hard to see these smaller planes after flying the big gas IMAC planes for the last 10 years.

I have the same plane. It's not a Zlin 50 though. This is the Zlin 526(?) Akrobat (stretched). Excellent flying airplane with a YS 120. Absolutely no bad habits.

MK kitted their version of the Z50L back in the '80s. It was not exact scale, but was designed for the 'new' aresti style pattern. While it doesn't look very pattern capable it flew quite well with no coupling issues (it was designed before all the commonplace mixing features found in current R/C systems).
Dick's Zlin also flies great. I had a wood version many years ago with a YS 91AC that flew as well as any of the 1.20 pattern designs of the time (15 years ago or so). You can still purchase the glass version of the Hanson Zlin from a guy named Rich Lee who has all of the molds of Dick's designs. I've seen information to contact him here recently. I have one of his glass Zlin kits and he does very nice work.
I just realized that I have absolutely no information about the specific airplane kit in question - sorry.

PA Ben. I have no info about the plane itself but there's a lot of information on that company. You may want to look around the forums and check them out for yourself.

Raidentech shows that as "Sold Out"-Unless you've got one located you don't have to worry[8|]

Nitroplanes shows them in stock. http://www.nitroplanes.com/aezlzen12070.html

Now that I look at that plane I wonder about its "pattern" capabilities. It is probably a nice-flying scale-aerobatic plane, but might be difficult to set up as a true pattern plane. The very low wing position along with the high stab position make me wonder a bit about coupling, and the relatively short tail moment (compared to the wingspan) will degrade straight-line tracking.

It well be in my hands today. I've asked in different forums about this bird and you guys are the only ones to respond. I'm trying to find anybody who might have this plane who could give me a heads up on it. Building, setup, engine, Flying, etc. Thanks for your input.

Lifes a Drag -> RE: Good Pattren plane? Zlin Z-50 (5/31/2008 4:53:03 PM)

I was looking at that plane too. But I want it for IMAC. I like the idea of the flaps. Would be interesting to see that coupled with ailerons. I have an 8U radio so shouldn't be a problem. As discussed earlier though, I hesitate because of the low wing design. In my mind the more popular mid wing like Extra or Yak would be a better choice for my purpose, but then again, thats just in my crazy mixed up mind. I do know that the real Zlin is a fabulous flier! Please keep us updated on your progress.
