SunShyne -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (4/29/2008 5:06:27 PM)

there is another thread on this somewhere here but I cant find it :)

This is my next sport flier this summer. Simple, easy, fun and relaxing :)

P-51B -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (4/29/2008 6:31:38 PM)

I did a search and didn't find another thread prior to posting...of course I am not the most talented search tool user either [:)].

If this is a duplicate of a running thread, I apologize...and please delete this one!

I dare you. No, wait, I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU!!![:)][:)][:D]

4000686798 -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/1/2008 4:27:30 PM)

Tower Hobbies has them in stock.

I ordered one and should be on the way today! [:D]

*JCB* -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/1/2008 6:05:07 PM)

Awesome...be sure to let us know how it is. I am thinking about getting this plane to use as a dedicated float plane. I like the fact that it can be fully disassembled for easy transport.

SunShyne -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/1/2008 8:24:46 PM)

agreed, the 2 piece wings is a great plus for this model. Might have to go place an order for one next week :)

You mean like this?

I had the same idea myself, of course I will build it as a land plane first, then maybe add floats later.

*JCB* -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/2/2008 4:48:30 AM)

yep, it looks good on floats, eh?? I just finished glassing my first set of floats today and they should be ready for paint in another day or two...

4000686798 -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/4/2008 2:27:00 AM)

My Cherokee is due sometime Monday.

Can hardly wait.

catracer343 -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/4/2008 6:38:35 PM)

[X(]Oh my god! Jim Wiggin and I grew up together! I haven't seen him for about 10 years (until now) He went to collage out in Wisconsin and I stayed back home and did the whole house, wife, kids thing. He was always my other brother from another mother! That's crazy seeing him working for GP now...It looks like he is doing quite well for himself now, and I hope to see him again someday...By the way, that Cherokee looks killer! Sorry for boring you all with the off topic story, but I almost shat myself when I clicked on the video! -Craig[:D]

4000686798 -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/6/2008 12:15:58 AM)

I received mine today and have opened it up for inspection. [:D]

All I can say is wow this is going to be nice airplane, and will go together very quick. [8D]

I can’t believe how much is already done on this model, install the radio and engine and your basically done.

Also get this GP enclosed to small pieces of covering. I guess for repairs as I have not found a place in the instructions were to use it. I thought that was kind of cool.

I’ll try to get some pictures and post soon!

jrf -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/6/2008 2:35:04 AM)

Has anybody seen the wing loading on this Cherokee? 26 - 28 oz/sq ft! [X(] Not bad for a 120 size, but this is a 40 size.

No wonder it needs flaps.

Jim

*JCB* -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/6/2008 2:59:28 AM)

Haters...[8|]

wait 'til i put floats on it and bump the wing loading up over 35oz/sq ft!! EXCITING!! [:D]

In the video, it looks like the plane lands slow enough

BTW: most of the weight diff between this plane and the knockabout come from the extra three servos that it require and the extra hardware that it needs so that the tail feathers are removable and the wing is a 2-piece. These are the main reasons why I want this plane as i will be traveling with it to various float fly-ins.

Kostas1 -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/6/2008 6:56:03 AM)

I plan also to buy this ARF for Summer and also i plan to buy the Hangra9 Pawnee 40.

There will be 2 very nice planes on my fleet then :)

Ah,
i forgot,

for the Cherokee no less than a 46AX engine...i am planning though to use an OS55 AX with 11x6 prop.[:D]

*JCB* -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/10/2008 2:06:11 AM)

Well, tower it out of stock of these things already! They must have gotten a pretty light shipment...

4000686798: any word on yours??

4000686798 -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/10/2008 5:57:17 AM)

Wow already out of stock.

I think Tower, Hobbico, and Great Planes are all joined at the hip. They probably sent a bunch out to the Hobby Shop dealers plus all the mail orders as well.

Glad I bought mine ASAP. After about 5 minutes out of the box here are some pictures of mine.

I am installing a Super Tiger .51 with pitts muffler.

I really like that the hinges are already completed glued in place with thin CA. The canopy is also completed as well.

With a bolt on tail, and wings joined by the aluminum tube, I think the only gluing required is the hardwood blocks to the wing servo hatches. I guess this because of the different size servos one might use.

I see in the Great Planes advertisements pictures you can see a grey line at the back of the canopy. I guess on the prototype they covered the area behind the canopy where it joins the fuselage with grey Monokote. I am happy that on mine and assuming everyone elses they covered it red on the production models. This basically leaves a very clean canopy line and a hard to see joint where the canopy is removable.

mobyal -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/10/2008 1:26:17 PM)

Hmmmm
Thak's a nice looking airplane. have to see if I can find one...

Kostas1 -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/10/2008 2:41:29 PM)

4000686798

damn what a nice looking plane!
I want more pics please!

More to come[>:]

*JCB* -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/10/2008 3:14:00 PM)

4000686798

Lookin' good!! My floats are in the finishing/painting process. So by the time i am done, tower should have the Cherokee back in stock. I have a magnum .46 xls sitting around. THat motor is a real beast, so i'm hoping it will have enough power to pull it off the water.

PTS -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/11/2008 7:21:17 AM)

I am finishing one of these up this weekend. I will be using a OS .46AX for power. The only gripe is the covering is really wrinkled bad in some areas but with a heat gun without a tip and a hot glove it looks good. Be careful or you will pull an edge...

Perry

4000686798 -> RE: Great Planes Cherokee ARF (5/11/2008 8:41:28 PM)

The covering on mine was perfect out of the box. I personally use an iron for better heat control.
