Scuff surface with 400 to kill the shine, prime with lusterkote primer and paint. Lusterkote takes a LONG time to dry

I've done it, but the problem you run into with such a flexible surface is over time it will crack. So far it has cracked and peeled every time I've painted covering, but I've had better results sanding, and steel wooling, (or scotchbrite pad) like Biplane Bill suggested, then I wipe it down real good with some denatured alcohol. The best way of course would be to use a sprayer, and add some flex additive to the paint. I believe Dave Brown model products used to make the additive, not sure if they still offer it or not. Really any additive that works with polyurethane should be fine, you just have to figure out the mix ratio. I know, it's a huge hassle when you just want a couple of extra colors on your plane. You could just make covering skins, being sure to remove the underlying ultrakote which will keep bubbles from forming.
