I am trying to pick out a charger that will charge both my tx and rx batteries at once. I am just looking for a simple wall charger and was wondering if one with the below specs would work. Here is what I have:

Tx: 8 cell, 9.6V, 1100mAh NiCd
Rx: 5 cell, 6V, 1200mAh NiMH

The charger I am looking at is rated at:

Tx: 11.6V, 110mA
Rx: 5.8V, 150mA

I am concerned about the voltages. Is the 11.6V too high for the transmitter battery and is the 5.8V too low for the receiver battery?

Thanks in advance for you help,
Brian

Most of the wall wart style chargers aren't set up to deal with 5 cell (6 volt) packs.

Look for something like an Accucyle Elite, its worth the investment to know your batteries are in good shape.

That unit should work fine for your batteries, the stated voltages are fine.

Rodney is correct. The only issue you may find is the RX current will drop to somewhere in the vicinity of 110mA due to the higher voltage rating of the 5 cell pack. Should be fine.

The Hobbico RC MultiCharger will do what you're asking. It's old-school (no digital displays, automatic functions or fancy features), but inexpensive, flexible and reliable. I have two of them and really like the simplicity and flexibility.

So you boys are saying a 5.6v output will fully charge a 5 cell, 6 volt reciever pack??

I think if you stick a meter on the output lead for the RX charger, you'll find it's much higher than 5.6.......probably between 7.5 and 9 volts. What they're saying is the charge rate will be diminished, but it will still charge a 5-cell pack. I'm pretty sure the concept of constant-rate versus constant-voltage comes into play here, but beyond that, I'm not sure exactly how it fits in.
