I got tired of fumbling with the flat charge plug in the side of my planes, wondering if I had it right side up or not.Solution:I found a power jack and plug at Radio Shack and have put on all of my planes.I have been using them for over two years and they work great.I don't even have to see the jack. I can feel for it and plug in.One word of CAUTION!!!!This is the same power plug used in the Futaba transmitter.Mark your leads PLAINLY!!I use yellow tags on mine.
The Radio Shack numbers are 274-1576 size N for the power jack,and274-1573 size N for the plug.

... I always wire those charge jacks the same way - Black wire on the Bottom - Black/Bottom, easy to remember.

Your charge jack idea does have advantages however. You definitely know exactly where the plug goes.

Same here. Black to bottom, or black to back if mounted so the jack is horizontal with the fuse.
