26cc is around a 1.60. Figure on most planes around a 70"+ wingspan and 12+ lbs. Mind you this is a quick estimate.

I have the cmp p40 and its kind of designed for a normal engine installation. I think it would be easier to go for a Hellcat, corsair, zero, FW190, something with a radial. There is a thread around here somewhere with the FW190 with a 40cc chinese engine. The FW190 should have some real get up and go with a 40cc on it.

Personally I like the zero or the hellcat both look a little better scale and most importantly aren't mustangs.

What about the hanger 9 Hellcat. I saw one of those at the field and it looked really nice. Pilot destroyed it with reversed ailerons on maiden. Real shame.

The CMP Hellcat and the Corsair both fly good with a 26cc gas engine. It will fit basically inside the cowl on both will need to have a hole for the sparkplug boot only carb and exhaust were inside.

I second the cmp, and clone Hellcats, motor fits fine, the weight is no issue, flies great. I have been messing around with 25 cc weedwacker conversions, and you can probably go lower than about 900 square inchs, but thats a good low end number if you watch the weight.

I also have a 25 cc toro powered GP 60-90 ugly stik, flies great. The GP PT17 and super stearman will fly with a 25cc conversion, although its pretty scale speed and probably too lethargic for most people. I have seen a GP P6E fly, and that would be a killer plane for small gas if you just want to float around and enjoy it...

I recently purchased a Cmp P-40 (180 size) and I'm planing on powering it with a 32cc Ryobi conversion gas engine, the engine fits perfectly inside the cowl and since both the carburator and the exhaust are in the rear, it will be totally concealed. I will also be able to mount the engine without extensive modifications to the aircraft.

Pilotorc4, can you take a picture of the engine install in your p40. I'm really curious to see how it came out, I was thinking about getting the brilelli 36gt for my p40 because it has a rear exhaust and has a better mount style for the p40.

the gasser I have has a rear mounted carb and wraparound pitts style muffler...so its not as wide as a side mounted carb gasser...should fit ok on a retangular cowl....I really like a P40 or Spitfire...my brother has the 90 size Hellcat already...I want something different...I dont care for the corsair much...how about an AT6 ? hell I was even considering the 120 Lancair....its not a warbird but its big and looks really nice...

I'm sure you can figure out a way to install your engine, but I think its designed to be mounted to a firewall. The p40 as is uses the beem mount type of engine installation like you see with glow engines.

I haven't installed my engine yet, the Ryobi engine that I have has no mounting points, so I'm planing on fabricating an engine mount out of aluminum and mount it to the two bolts that attach the crankcase to the cylinder head, the engine mount will then be installed on the aircraft using the existing beams (I will have to enlarge the distance between the beams and reinforce them ) I haven't started on this conversion, it still in the planning stages. I will take some pictures and post them to give you a better idea of what I'm planing on doing.
