I am getting ready to purchase a new turbine for my new Classic Lightning, and heard that there is a new 160/Titan. I believe it is the SX? i went to the JetCat USA site and couldn't find anything......any info would be appreciated.

oh, and is it a good fit for the Lightning, or would a regular ol Titan do the trick (i know, more power.....but i am thinking more fuel consumption as well)

thanks

joe

from a post just after FL Jets:

As Bob explained it to me at FJ, the new P160-SX has numerous differences from the Titan SE.
It is an enhanced vesrsion of the P160-SE.

The new P160-SX has an all new 5 axis machined aluminum compressor wheel with a higher pressure ratio than the Titan SE. The machined compressor is the reason the P160-SX is safely capable of higher RPM's.
It adds a little more safety margin.

It also follows the throttle commands almost without any delay.

The new P160-SX features an all new axially mounted kerostart hot surface element that is mounted in a cooler place in the combustor for added service life and relaibility. There is no external glo plug, cable or hole through the case.

The new V6.3 ECU features an "Auto power down" function, that allows you to switch the engine power off after landing without disturbing the cool down cycle. The ECU will stay powered up, and finish the cool down cycle and then auto power down.

I saw it fly the snot out of the Ultra Lightning (RIP) at CA Jets. Looked like a perfect engine for that airframe. Scott

Thanks KC and GSR. Sounds very interesting. I like the idea of no external plug. do you all know what the price/performance/fuel consumption difference is?

also, are these available? i guess i could call bob just thought i would ask.

i am new to turbines and have read a bunch about using the 123 cells for the kerostart motors.

i know that LiON is not the way to go for these, but how about a 2S LiPO???

any words of wisdom???

15-20 C Lipos are fine as are the 123 cells. Jetcat even sells 123 packs as an option for ECU packs now.
I built a standard Ligntning with a P180 in it and the performance was about the same as the 160Sx as best as I could tell. The Sx will also be lighter. Scott

Does anybody know if the 160SX comes with the kero start as standard? On the jetcat site it appears to be an option.

Is the 160 Titan still available? It has been removed from the Jetcat web site.

Cheers.

I can only speak for JetCat USA, but there is no plan to have a P-160SX with gas start.

And the Titan is not discontinued.

Regards,
