Anyone have any tips for packing planes for a move?

When I moved from California to Texas, I towed a small trailer with my airplanes and RC stuff. Nothing broke!

A few years ago my kids hauled all my planes down to Fla. from Mi. in their enclosed trailer.

I had packed all our stuff and leveled out the top as best I could then laid blankets etc. on top of the stuff. Then I just placed the planes in good secure positiones and placed more blankets etc. in and around the planes.

They all rode fine and NO damage even with the kids getting in and out of the trailer a few times. Most people tend to be too carefull with packing, a little common sence goes a long ways.

The movers have wardrobe containers. They can split them in half and pack your planes in them. It works great and if they get damaged the insurance will cover the planes. I've moved a few times doing this and never had any problems. Good luck.

When in the military, I moved a number of times. Back then I had mostly 50" to 60" w/s CL stunt models, all in one piece. The movers furnished slatted boxes, with cardboard liners, IIRC, around 30-48" by 65" and a foot or so deep. I packed the models myself, and closed the containers. No problems were ever encountered.

find a mate with a big car and pack as many planes in there as you can, usually with 2 or 3 fuselages head-to-tail in the back with the seats down, and wings stacked by the side
