rmflyfish -> suggestions for large profile plane (5/1/2008 5:41:43 AM)

Any suggestions for a profile plane large enought to justify a Saito 180. I have a nice clean 180GK and would like to stick it on the nose of a strong profile plane to practice 3D with, but I really don't know much about profiles.

Would the OMP Fusion 67 handle it.

Consider that I fly at 6000 feet above sea level as well

Thanks in advance

BP

MoJo 65

I don't know if the MoAss addition is available for it but that would be a real buzz if it was.

Both the 67" Fusion and 65mojo are essentially 90 size birds. A Saito 180 would be out of the question. What you need is the 80" Edge or 80" Fusion. The Saito 180 is a popular engine choice for these birds.

Check out the 80" profiles there.

80 Fusion would be a good start. http://www.teamomp.org/video/80fusion1.wmv

The Mojo 65 is plenty powerful on a Saito 125. A 180 might turn it into a brick. There is also that Eagle somethig-r-nuther.

Just my opinion but there's no way a saito 180 is going to be enough (for me)for a 80" plane at 6000 feet.
Id stick with the mojo 65 (I know 2 people that have had 180's on them at 400 ft and while a bit heavier flew just fine) If you were going with the omp 67" fusion kit Id just beef up the mount and attachment points and hang it on that figuring the battery hatch needs to be behind the wing. Im not sure from what Ive heard about the arf there is enough beef for a 180 up front.. A fellow named berwyn bill on the pro bro site has a 65" stralis xt kit for sale. That would be another good possibility. But in the end it's your decision based on what you feel is "enough" power. The new 80" fusion might be ok with the 180 if your not looking for a lot of pull out power

saito 125 is plenty heavy on a fusion, just about right, you'd have a turd if you put a 180 on one.

The wing loading would be WAY too high with a 180 on a 90 size plane. It will fly. don't get me wrong, but it will not 3D nearly as well as a lighter setup. Any of the 80" profiles from OMP will be just fine. My $0.02.
