don't know if this helps or not but the Sukhoi uses a 1/4 20 I think . And speaking of losing wing attachment pieces I made up a couple of small tethers today that keep the clips and the wing securing wing bolts securely attached to the plane when the wings are off. have a look

when it's time to fly the bolts pop off the clips and secure the wings and the tether is the right length to just pop the clip right in the dowel

If there is a 40% plane out there drawing 42 amps it's because it has an on-board welder.

The old Extras use a 4mm x 20mm screw.

Hi Tom,
Aaxiss has a great idea, in my V-1 Edge 540 28% are there plastic bolts I could use since mine uses the hex head screws? are they the same size as the old Extra's.

No, you have 4mm wing bolts and a hair pin cotter. V-2 uses a 1/4-20 nylon thumb screw, and hair pin cotter if desired. As far as I know they do not make 4mm nylon thumb screws. Putting the screws and pins back in the wing works pretty well for storage too...

thanks Pat, thats what I do. I thought maybe the Thumb screw would work better. I did see somewhere there was a wing bold with an aluminum round heand on it with nurreled edges. Alls you had to do was tighten it or loosenit by hand.

You just took things to a new playing field. You will need a well equipped hardware department in a Lowes or similar. Look for the 4mm machine screws with different type heads. Once you know where those are look for the drawer full of knobs that can be fit to the head types on the bolts. The better stocked hardware stores have the combinations and the price is pretty reasonable.

Comp Arf has been the primary manufacturer using this type of arrangement but I believe those are 6mm screw threads.

I already lost one of the pins while the wing was in the bag. the ends of my wing bags that came with the plane are about 2" too short to close with the wing tips stuffed all the way in to the end and I am short on space so I end up standing the wings on the wide end up against the wall. plus with my setup the pin is always attached and the bolt goes on soon as you remove it from the wing. not necessarily better but it works for me as I tend to lose things rather quickly setting them somewhere I shouldn't .

Hello Pat,
I bought two 1 1/4 long 4mm socket head bolts from my local hardweare store, and cut two round disc from a solid 3/4 inch platsic dowel. I then drilled a hole through the center and the with my sander sanded finger holes in the disc. I then screwedthe 4MM bolt through the center and put a dab of gorilla glue on the upper threads of the bolt to glue the disc to the top of the bolt. After drying over night. I gave it the final test and home made my own thomb screw worked great. Takes alot less time then trying to use a allen wrench or hex head screw driver to secure the wing bolt.
Think I should apply for a patten to put on it??

For those that have managed to lose one or two, hair pin cotters are also available at better stocked hardware stores. They are sized in fractions of an inch and the ones you want are 1/16"
