Our r/c club here in Tulsa is starting a q-500 class of racing and the only airplane we can find is the viper. I have looked at pylon world but a lot of those places are out of business or not selling kits anymore. We are trying to keep the cost down and are using stock .40 motors. We are having a lot of fun but we tore up about 5 of the 8 planes we had there last weekend! Any advice would be great about manufactures of kits or arf's.

supertrc.com make a wooden Q500 kit. The wing is prebuilt. the fuse is a kit. A great kit for about $150 Much better than a viper.

After Horizon bought up Lanier, the Preditor went the way of the dodo.

In my day,, we had to make out own models, none of this fancy ARf stuff,

We have been keeping stats on all our races forever, one constant, about a 30% crash rate on race day.

There was a China knock off of a Pred that was like 60 bucks a year or 2 ago , try googling the open Interntz. see where it takes ya'

I would suggest sticking to the exact AMA424 rules and using only Thundertiger Pro.40 engines. When are your races? Kansas City is having a few this year, we are trying to have one in the Springfield, MO area, I know Joplin is trying to have one as well...we could just add Tulsa to the circuit!

Right now we have some races scheduled for May 24th and some time in June I think. The flyer is at tulsagluedobbers.com . We are mostly running TT .40. A friend gave me an old magnum .40 and it was running great, until it started slowing down one flight. It would not run over 13,000 rpm. I took it apart and found the piston pin loose in the piston. It had already worn out the holes where the pin goes through the piston. Couldn't find parts for the engine due to it being about 10 years old. Hobby People said that Thunder Tiger made the engine for them so I got the piston sleeve and piston pin from a guy who crashed his quickie with a TT .40 engine. The parts fit andf now it's up and running again, but before I got it running I had already bought a TT .40.

Thanks for the info on the planes, I have seen a lot of those on Pylon World but a few of them never return e-mails or are out of business.

Post the flyer on here. There are quite a few in that area that would make to your race if they know about it.

Great Planes bought Lanier, and after a firm "We'll not change a thing!!" they're gone. Go figure, the Pred was a better plane!

AeroCrafts produces a 500 class racer called the Xciter. These planes come in an ARF format and fully covered. All you have to do is install the tail section, engine and radio. For more on these airplanes go to www.aerocrafts.net.

I'm not 100% sure, but check with Marcus. For around $150 you can get a 424 Vortex.

In 428 it's like the 8 time, in a row Nat's winner! Plus Marcus is great and really goes the extra for his customers.

Hey Kevin: I have a Mad dog that I havent started on yet, but it doesn't have the carbon fiber in the nose section?? It must be an older model I bought it off RCU or E-Bay I don't remember which.
